Dsup, what would you say is the percentage of rideable surf on the Florida gulf? You have talked it up quite a bit, I like surfing and I need a new job that Tampa seems to offer (unless someone on here wants to hire me, a guy with a bachelors and jack of all trades, good credit, clean record, yet lacking a degree in everything that he knows. Furthermore, my rants on here are due to the fact that "this is a free surf-predictin website." - SJB). In other words, do you surf on at least a weekly basis? Your thoughts please. I need a job and surf. You post too many good gulf pics, or, just enough to tickle my fancy.

Maybe I just need to move out west. I am off subject, but I encounter enough wisdom on here to maintain a profile and presence.

    Thank you

Killa, Tampa is a great place if you really need a good job and don't mind driving long distances to surf regularly. The Gulf has its moments every year but it's few and far between, it relies heavily on storm fronts and cold fronts. It's fickle but when it all comes together she's beautiful. To get weekly surf will require driving 2hrs East of Tampa to hit North / Central FL beaches, 2.5hrs to some prime spots. Good job = enough gas money to afford it. That's what I've been doing for years. But I'm moving in less than a year to somewhere in Brevard County 10 minutes to the water. Just gotta figure out jobs and home situation.

In other words, one can't live on the Gulf alone if you're any kind of regular surfer, the month long flat spells will drive you mad. So I use it more as a back up plan for surf options. Just gotta be there when it's on to enjoy. There is one place I enjoy that is east coast quality a few times per year.

BTW, is this the time of year most of the swells pop up on the Gulf Coast?

More consistent in winter. Summer completely depends on the tropics

Haha, nice Lebowski reference! Mostly looking at Melbourne, Rockledge, Palm Bay areas, East of 95, near S.R 1, easy access to Patrick's and Satellite areas, or a short drive to Sebastian or NSB

Palm bay is a wretched hive of scum and villainy, ever see the movie KIDS by Larry Clark? He did another film called BULLY which was based on actual events that occurred in FL, but story is set in Palm Bay FL. Watch either movie for a disturbing time

I lived on sunset ave in Mel beach for a year, and downtown Melbourne for another year, I liked both places a lot, just wish it was pumping all the time......are you tied to living on mainland? I think you would LOVE LOVE LOVE living beachside and riding a bike to surf.

    just saying..

Me too. Even at my age (59).
I remember as a kid living in So Calif in early 70s sort of envying the guys who were able to ride to the beach (Torrance or Hermosa) on bikes with their boards. Some carried them underarm for short distances. Others rigged up bike trailers and towed their boards.

DP: Thx for the Gulf surf pics. Better than what we've been seeing here (VB) lately.
Haven't been able to convince wife to move to FL upon my retirement. May be checking out AL down toward Gulf Coast. Daughter lives north in Huntsville.

HaHa Seen both movies and know exactly what you mean. I prefer Melbourne so that's top of the list, but haven't been able to convince my wife to move beachside, she's too afraid of Hurricanes and wants to avoid the direct hit so we compromised with being right over the bridge.
