Been in double over head, just stay calm, don't expend too much energy, hold downs are intense

Swim under water for long distances, experience in big stuff is hard to simulate though, nothing beats the real thing, I get very picky on the waves I go on at that size, be sure it's the wave you want, all I can say

Let a friend perform the "Harlem Struggle" on you. If you can survive that, you'll have no problem with multiple hold downs in 3X overhead Mavericks.

There's free diving classes as mentioned already. You can actually get certified different levels of free diver. I believe Level 1 is up to 60ft.

Spend more time under water. Take slow long breaths before diving. Don't Panic!

There's a book called "Deep" you should look into. Human bodies actually are adapted to dive over 100ft. Around 30ft we reverse buoyancy and instead of our lungs trying to pull us up, they start to pull you down. Interesting stuff if you are really into it.

Work with dumbbells in the pool. No, not the obvious dumbbells like pester, shart boarder & stankcastledropmeat.

Metal, steel, stuff that drops you to the bottom. Work on your mindfulness and your relaxation, as DSUP mentioned, and it does advance one's ability to make it through hold downs.

And, I'm a fan of anything HOF Plat hermano NYNJ says, so get on that, too.

    Says the ungreatful one.

Your attitude demonstrates that you already have the answers to your own questions, and you just want to reaffirm that SI members don't, while maintaining your proud perch upon the pedestal of the enlightened.

This technique works for breath holding as well as wetsuite rinsing. The turds are the most important part. Don't forget the turds!

Which part? Maybe 1/2 don't smoke, but plenty do. Healy, Fletcher, Bruce, Albee etc..
And they all drink. Maybe one or two don't, but they are the exception

How cute. Did I inspire you to say thank you? Congradulations, you're getting close to docking that douche canoe of yours. Apolologize for your ungreatful, condescending attitude, and you'll be on dry land.

Emass and myself are simply pointing out YOUR douche canoeing style. Think of it as a favor. If you don't like the sound of your own behavior, change it. After all, you have to live with it, we're just observers.
