You made the right call. It was about 1 foot on the north barrier island. I was out for an hour and caught 2 waves on a soft top it was so small.
Sunday here (VB) looked fun. I did not get out but was at Oceanfront near the pier with wife and daughter. Waist high and first ride-able swell in awhile. Air temps were in mid 70s, so more than usual were out; but it still wasn't crowded. Out for an hour during lunch today (Monday). Knee high and windy. Half dozen short rides. If it had not over a week since last sesh, I would've swam laps at the base pool. I was the only fool out there, but just had to get in the water. Quite a few dolphins though.
this man speaks the truth, went out today and it sucked, even christmas my spot didnt really produce. going to have to start waking up at 6am to try and beat the wind
in sojersey we don't see the dolphins this time of year. they come back in about april; at that time they seem a bit agressive.
For the past couple months, the dolphins I've seen, and there've been quite a few, have been swimming south. A few will swim over to check you out and then go on their way. Getting a little off track here, but I saw some that had rounded heads (no snouts) that were a little larger than normal size dolphins. Also, a dead, pinkish-gray baby pygmy sperm whale washed up on beach late last summer. Had never seen one before.
about 2/3 years ago the same thing washed up in AC....a baby pygmy sperm...surfers found it (Hi adam) alive but sadly it passed.
another thing - i don't personally know any cetaceans - yet i HAVE NOTICED that sometimes whales, for reasons of food i guess, often mimic the behavior of dolphins. kinda like the dolphins are grunts and the whales are officers.
I surfed kookatan sunday afternoon and had a blast, but it got crowded quick. Unfortunately there were a couple of older (40's) dipsh!ts who got pissed and were screaming at people anytime someone (usually kids) started to drop in on them, but wouldn't even look at you when called out for doing the same to others. Other than that, good swell that actually held a line for once.
yesterday morning was working really well at the spot I hit. I wish I would have gotten there closer to sunrise, buddy said it was easily shoulder-head high with consistent sets but dropped quick as the tide went out. Afternoon was the occasional stomach high bomb but for the most part it was just dredging hollow knee-waist high speedy barrels coming through. hard to negotiate and keep up speed on such small tubes when you're over 6 feet tall lol
i just had my whole longboard finbox ripped today and destroyed beyond repair rip 15year old longboard you will be missed.
correct, more north of ocnj but south of monmouth county. doesn't have a boardwalk and the jettys are still submerged under sand. that's all the info you're gonna get cus there was a grand total of four of us sharing waves yesterday just beachbreak sand bars for miles. and some of these sandbars turn on and reel rights off like a machine when it's sse swell. #stillnotasgoodasbelmar
K bro. That's where I live. And I guarantee I know those spots better than you. No offense. I was out at bay head Harris st to be exact it was about 1 ft. Maybe it was 2 ft at sunrise. That's all I'm gonna get lolol k. There are only a handful of spots there and I have surfed them all. Great secret spot.
ahh yes. that makes sense. I had a couple friends that went that way, but work and all..... I had a small window I could go and it wasn't worth paddling out. Glad you got some stoke up there though
Not bay head, no where close for that matter. Ok last hint, lineup marker is a CENSORED. ya it was fun, wind was brutal though blowing right in from the bay though. got some shelter from the houses/dunes but that walk back to the car was the coldest part haha. and I hear ya, I had off yesterday but still kinda blew it by not getting there early enough, my buddy scored though so I'm stoked for him and that I got a couple good ones when I paddled out and a bunch low tide left overs
