holy ****, PLUS 1 ON THAT! some of the best soup in the world when made correctly….and an epic cold winter soup broth if there ever was one. i prefer mine with eye of round, tendon, and omosa. add a bunch of oriental basil, lime, and jellopayn-yo's to that and you are set. i mean, can you spare $4?
figure out a way to get some adrenaline pumping, if the swells that big the paddle out should do the trick
My .02: If it's the flu, not saying that it is, but it is going around, then it's nothing to mess with. Been laying up quite a few people I know. Often starts with sneezing, runny nose, then gets into the lungs If you start feeling chills and aching. I wouldn't go out. Once you come down with the flu, exercise isn't going to cure it; it will likely make it worse by getting yourself even more run down. But I'm older and have been down that road several times. And I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express.
you know what a neti pot is? it's salt water up your nose.. so yeah go surfing. nature's neti pot. You'll forget you were even sick after your first hold-down.
I get the steak and flank and a side order of summer rolls with scrimps! And yes, that bush they give you with your soup, all goes in! I also usually toss in a little sriracha to kick it up a little more. Good stuff!!!! Sisurf, check in and let us know how the session went!
I get what you're saying but not exactly. Sea water can have some nasty stuff in it depending on where you are surfing, esp after a hard rain. I flush my sinuses after a session with the neti pot. I may be a bit more hardcore about it though, I had to have sinus surgery this year.
I'll tell you this - when I'm wearing thick rubber I look at the last little section of a wave that is worth a good slash and pull out and over just so I can paddle back out without a duckdive. On waist to chest high days I pride myself on the following formula: 1 hr surfing with < 5 Duck Dives = Happy and warm and no ice cream headaches. Getting caught inside with a few dives just to get back out is not worth trying to get the fins out on a turn. Its just not.
Thanks for all the cool advice ya'll! I swear by Afrin nasal spray, as long as used judiciously. I will eat lots of spicy food, but the Vietnamese place here sucks, so maybe some Thai chicken panang 4 star with some spicy shrimp soup will clear me out. I also use salt water spray up the nose on the regs, even if I don't have a cold, just to keep the sinuses happy and salty. Sorry to say, this is much ado about nothing. I'm feeling not so bad, and the surf is not so good. Instead of 10 ft at 12-13 seconds with offshores, it is shoulder to head high with a few bigger sets, and the swell is from the north, but the wind is pretty breezy out of the southeast, still. It hasn't switched yet, and if it doesn't cooperate soon, it wont clean up till dark. So right now it is messy and not too big. What's wrong with the forecast? Can't you guys be right all the time, instead of sometimes? In this hi tech age, WTF? (just bustin chops...even the tide predictions are off by an hour or more sometimes due to winds and currents and such....and the TV weathermen get paid weather they are right or wrong, that's why they are called weathermen. I don't care if the women forecasters are right cause they are soooo hot looking, but I digress). If it was good out there, I would not be in this here lineup at this juncture of time and space. If it get good later, I will take back this post. Thanks again everyone for all the sound medical advice that only "the forum" can offer!
My girlfriend is part Thai, her mom, 100%. Let me tell ya, I am a lucky boy when it comes to Thai food! Best larb gai I've ever had!
Yeah, it's more of a temporary fix, the seawater head rinse. I've commonly develop sinus infections from surfing in jerzey.. but whenever I'm sick, if I go out and surf I feel better at least for that day..

Do y'all have ANY idea how much work it takes to be a good weather forecaster? I mean, you don't get skills like those, I mean that, overnight...
This is kind of what I've always heard about doing physically demanding sports in general. If you just have a head cold then it's usually OK to exert yourself. If you have it in your chest already then you should probably lay low, because you will exacerbate the illness.
OK, here is the rub. No one mentioned that shortness of wind can be an issue. I went out later in the day, as the winds died. It never went offshore, but there was a good groundswell in the water around chest high with shoulder high peaks and sets. The initial paddle out sucked, and it took me abit to get my wind after making it out pat the sandbar. I was gassed the whole session. I got lots of waves, but had to wait for some sets to go by to catch my breath after paddleing out after decent rides. I felt my age. I made some mistakes later in the session due to being out of position, and got pitched a couple times being in too far on sets. It was dead low tide and dredging off the bar a couple times. So the moral is...if it was as big as it was predicted...well overhead...I would have gotten a beat down and it would not have been a fun session, maybe I may have gotten hurt. I swim 2000 meters 3x a week when it is flat. So I am in decent shape for an old guy. I would not advise going out in firing waves of size if you have a cold, unless you are a triathalete. So that is my story.
