Spyder 6'8" egg 19 1/2" My first custom board by Dru McDaniels works in knee high to pumping doh pr winter swells. Magic for me. I didnt start surfing till I was 38. Its tore up now, but still getting the job done.
CJ your hands are exquisite, and I like your couch, too. Brewengineer, if you are out there, house pics please. It's been so long. I still marvel at your garage. If you guys could start posting pics of your houses that would be great. Your boards don't do anything for me, but I love seeing pictures of your houses and garages.
At one time I had this board that was like magic... I guess it was my magic board. it was a used Ashton. I picked it up years and years ago at Eastern Lines Surf Shop (BELMAR represent!) for $50! Cheapest board ever! although it was buckled at one point, but fixed (and extra heavy) So- what made the board magic was that it had Channels on the bottom. I forget the size- maybe 6'8 to 7... but the thing was perfect in any wave... specially barrels.... I took it on many surf trips... and ended up snapping it in two in like 2ft shore break at Bradley Beach... sad day. I tossed the board thinking- I will get another... well could never find a board with channels until a few months ago- finally got one and its even better! only thing I dislike is the paddling while in my winter wetsuite. It needs just a little more volume, but anymore would make the rails too boxy... anyways...
forgot to mention- that board had like no max speed. It felt like you where on ballbearing and at times couldn't slow down! when you had lots of speed, it almost felt like the board was out of the water- like a magic carpet ha! you could feel the lift in the tail... man that board was where it was at!
probably not a good sign that every one of the channels has a streak of brown foam up and down it where the water has soaked through the glass.
Haha yea totally. Who is rick price anyways??? The channels look a little too long too- I would buy it for 100... But I'm stoked on my new byrne 6 channel board... Just I haven't seen one for sale in a long time Always heard it was an art to shape one of those
Brevard county FL. One of the guys who still handshapes them all. No CNC machine as far as I know, which is rare these days. Production shaped w/ Pete Dooleys' Natural Art in the 70's. If you ever come across a Sea Shapes he probably did it. Production shaper who probably did 6 or 7 a day for many years. So he is good to say the least. Shapes very clean. The Natural Art thing has since faded away and I believe the name has been licensed to someone who does them in Brazil. But the short affiliation between Pete and Scott Busbey in Buxton, NC still lives on. NA surf shop on OBX is still the real deal shop for sure. Please correct me if I am wrong. Had a Rich Price NA and it was a gooder.
