Surfers knew this was a-coming. “If you cranked up the aquarium heater and dumped some acid in the water, your fish would not be very happy,” Dr. Pinsky said. “In effect, that’s what we’re doing to the oceans.” Fragile ecosystems like mangroves are being replaced by fish farms, which are projected to provide most of the fish we consume within 20 years. Bottom trawlers scraping large nets across the sea floor have already affected 20 million square miles of ocean, turning parts of the continental shelf to rubble. Whales may no longer be widely hunted, the analysis noted, but they are now colliding more often as the number of container ships rises. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/16/s...n-region®ion=top-news&WT.nav=top-news&_r=0 For the most intelligent species ever to inhabit the planet, humans surely are the stupidest & greediest & most selfish shiiiites that ever roamed the globe.
Good thing lucious money has nothing to do with all the damage. The oceans are just stupid for not taking better care of themselves.
Our oceans are getting hammered. Dont you want to pass down surfing to your kids someday. We all have to unite and be an affective force to stop the unnessesary abuse to MOTHER OCEAN.Thats my girl!! hahaha
Good threads hermano. It's truly a sad state of affairs. There's an Abbey line that essentially bemoans the fact of how many of us(the human herd) dream of a better world in the form of an afterlife, yet we really don't acknowledge, and therefore don't deserve, the paradise we were given here. If we're lucky we'll be around to watch us get swatted like the fleas we are. sent from Last Stronghold of the Ghost Dancers
It's all too depressing. In addition to not acknowledging the world around us, people always entertain this notion of passing this and that down to their children. Surfing, a better world, etc. Stop having so many goddamned useless children and maybe the world could be a better place someday. Or at least not be totally fukked. from INTERSTELLAR: just cause we were born here doesn't mean we have to die here. we're not an organic crust destined to return to dirt. by our very nature humans are explorers and pioneers.
we should not only acknowledge collapse as inevitable, we should recognize it as necessary and embrace it. there's a big set coming. It's just starting to show. What can you do? relax, breathe deep and focus on what's important. Don't look back. Move forward. Most of us are gonna get cleaned up.
Life isn't a science fiction movie. We don't have another planet to run off to after we FUBAR this one.
every day another is discovered; in the goldilocks zone. also, "beneath the snow line" searches are meeting w/success. what does fubar mean?
Historically... given enough time... every ruling civilization has collapsed, and every species has gone extinct. On the geologic time scale, we're just a blink of the eye. We're only here temporarily. The only question in my mind is, what happens when evolution by natural selection stops? Because that's us. Nothing weeds out the weak... no natural pressures select those who are more fit for survival, to pass on their genetic code, so the human species continues to evolve. We all survive, regardless of disabilities, mutations, lack of intelligence... I think the only thing that will change the direction of human evolution are NEW pressures... things we haven't experienced yet, like new diseases we're not immune to or can't vaccinate against. Because those living things ARE still evolving. It's only us who aren't.
another one of carl sagans' righteous one-liners was: humans are just the latest act on the planetary stage.
I think we are putting effort into mars for good reason my friends. Kepler is hard at work too.. and it's not for shytes and giggles...hope we can straighten it out before it gets too late
Sorry to be a buzzkill but moving to another planet is not a practical solution. Even if we did find a planet that would support life, we would have to shlep in all the supplies. Think about how hard that is when your camping... on earth.. (if you've ever done that - it's hard) ...OK EVEN THEN, you think any of us or our kids would be going on this new planet upgrade?!? keep dreaming!! it would only be the little D*ck Cheyneys and little Koch brothers and other 1%ers of the world. So I say we let that pie in the sky dreamy distraction die. Get back to the garden. The earth will take us back.
