Wow that takes me back. Did anyone else notice how big some of those boards looked? Nowdays you just don't see guys riding 6'6"s or so in waves like that. Now it would be a 5'7" or something.
some boards these days are so short, it looks like surfers are just hovering over the water. you hardly see any board. the days of long pointy drawn-out noses on boards seem to be over. shapers are focusing more on the business parts of the boards that are functional and fit in the pocket. i like the whole stubby concept.
I like it too. Liek you said the boards do seem to fit in the pocket better. I remember in the early 90's in college having a 6'3" WRV as my daily use board and a 6'7" I think for "bigger" waves like in the head high range
