http://www.barrett-jackson.com/Arch...-FUTURLINER-PARADE-OF-PROGRESS-TOUR-BUS-15395 Saw this going in the auction for 4mill. Looks to me like that could've been a neat vehicle to transport board or customize into something really cool. Too bad GM only made 12.
VW made something like this in the 60's, called it "Van", or something. Go figure, but the roof was optional.
Not as many as you'd think. I'm on nevada/NM/AZ/CA/TX weekly trying to find one worth taking the ride for. In shape worth restoring....unicorns. I've done invasive restos....they were fun. I'd prefer to avoid frame off restos unless I'm getting paid to do it. Turn over one issue, 10 rear their ugly heads in a hurry.
I just saw this on Bring a Trailer: http://bringatrailer.com/2015/01/25...omplete-1966-volkswagen-21-window-conversion/ Is this something people do? Seems like an incredible amount of work just to have a fake.
I just in the past year sold two VW Westys. A 71 and a 75. The splitties in any shape are getting outrageous in price. I made a little bit of money selling mine, and now I'm looking for the perfect surf/beach vehicle, an 85-89 4 cylinder Toyota 4Runner. Looked at a couple that have been too rough.
Gotta go southwest my man. Worth the ride. Almost snagged a Land Rover defender a few years back in New Mexico. Paint was worn (noiice patina), but I'll be damned if there wasn't a single pit or spec of surface rust on the whole damn rig. You can score some nice old c and k body Chevys down there absolutely mint frames and bodies. Might be worth looking at as well for the surf vehicle with some nostalgic flair.
Those Vdub buses always make people emotional because of what they represent I reckon. You know, freedom of the open road and the ability to make anyplace your home for a short while, yada yada. Teary eyed to the point of goldchainers spending 6 figures to get that surfy feeling. But I could not imagine trying to live with one and surf out of it, especially the ones with all the glass. Always too hot or too frickin' cold and slow as slug. It would leak like a sieve w/ all that glass, a hundred feet of rubber gaskets to rot and fail. The Yota foreskin seems like a better idea but where do I take a nap after a long session? I just scored a breadbox chevy van for cheap right down the road from you screwby, relatively low miles and ready to shovel sand out of. My dream vehicle is the black 80's G20 4x4 chevy van that I know you have seen on the north end of CB. That thing is sweet and burly- and 'murican.
Man, 30k for an engine-less, rusty project. Crazy. Was wondering if you bought that one you posted about. Good luck.
See to me, that truck is gorgeous. The big problem I have is the bagged suspension with those rims. I feel like old classics like that are ruined by dropping it too low. Just my opinion of course
