You might be able to cut costs by just buying one of the carver trucks and replacing the front of one of your skateboards.

But beware it might be an unfun frankenmonster.

 

Go on the carver site and check out your local dealers. Give them a call and see what they have in stock....then ask what kind of deal they can give you.
Its the dead of winter, the shops are looking for the business. I picked one up a couple weeks ago at 40% off.

 

Nah bubs unfortunately that set up won't work...Just buy a real skateboard...Skate transition as it translates to surfing....ripping...errbody wants to rip even if they won't say it

JD's got a point, I've done some of my best surfing when I skated transition the same day.

Not gonna lie though, I still want a carver, and I wanna take it to the ramp. Doubly surfy.

JD, don't you (mostly?) bodyboard? Can't see skating transitioning to that too well. I do know you shredded street harder than I ever did.

P.S. Emass has definitely been incarcerated, abducted, or fallen off of surfing. Perhaps one of his illegitimate interstate children has surfaced, because he should have been on this thread like Bill on a bottle of Kassers.

Oh but yeah I also do want a Craver as well. I have a Sector 9 that is a 37" with a diamond tail. It flexs real well and I put some of them Gullwing carver trucks that the kingpin os onthe outside and all. Got some wedge risers and that thing is fun as hell. Not sure about the wedges and the geometry and stuff but it's fun.

 

I'd say 10% of my water time over the year is spent on the surfboard the rest on the sponge. Actually the same techniques applied for spins on skateboard are the same as on the sponge(head and shoulder positions) As far as the whole carver thing I've seen dudes riding them at various parks near shore towns...planting their hands for more leverage and pivot to imitate carves on surfboard. That can't be transitioned to water as its far less unforgiving then concrete or asphalt

 

I beg to differ.

The carver teachs you how to carve and stay on a rail. It builds your leg muscles for swooping turns as well as violent rail to rails.

Its not very good for most skateparks though too dangerous.

 

In jersey you get so little water time its tough.

Transition skating teaches you to drop in deep and attack the walls but if you want to perform a nice wrap around cutback or a reverse the carver will do wonders. WONDERS.

Or you could just skate really loose trucks on some tranny's...I literally rock my trucks so loose I can easily take of the king pin nut with a couple turns by hand...

 

The SurfSkate

I have a SurfSkate board and it's literally an actual surf TRAINER. It feels exactly like pumping a surfboard and increases your ability to pump and grows your muscles. I've never tried a carver, but judging by their trucks, the surfskate is probably better.

It's also much longer and more like a surfboard.

Yeah loose trucks are the tits. So check this out. My buddy has a mini half that is like 4-5 ft tall and like 36 ft wide. I loosen my trucks way up like Jawn, get pumping back and forth fakie. when you are going up a wall backwards wait till the time when you wheels just touch or come really close to the coping. As you ride back down the tranny lean frontside and ride down the face of the ramp like a wave.

I got really good at it where I could be on one end of the ramp and come down the face and make like a bottom turn, hit the lip for a slasher, down the face and bottom turn again, then off the lip, bottom turn and one last hit the lip. Get going at the other end of the ramp fakie and repeat the whole process in backside fashion!

Two completely different things. Its best to get on both. Not one or the other.

 

I will say I dont think you necessarily need the deck. Or the back truck even for that matter. The technology is all in the front truck I believe. So with that in mind, If you have a deck already, you just really need the front truck. Which you could pick up used. Even if im wron about you needing the back truck you could still save cash by not buying it complete.
