I finally found this surfline article from 12'. Pretty good stuff on some East Coast Surf/Shaping History. Not trying to take away from the Chemistry thread but thought some would enjoy. I had a 6'7" WRV shaped by Shell for my first Hawaii Trip in 1991. Man time flies! (cut and paste link...does not appear to be alive).

Also, I was checking out the Surfing "Surfboard Edition" from this month last night. They had some WRVs in the mix. The Drone looks like a shape similar to my discussion last week in the old guy short board thread. Anybody had one? It did not say who shaped it in the specs.

 

Drone is more of a small wave board I think, Generator is a compacted allarounder.

 

I am looking for the small wave/groveler board for those waist to chest beach break days (up to head high I guess). I will check out the Generator...don't think that one was illustrated in mag.

How did the generator handle in the wave that mattyb posted of you? What's it's range?

 

It handled it fine but I was wanting the accelerator fins in the fcs2 boxes I was runnin the reactors and the board felt alittle twitchy.

I picked up a 5'8" Chemistry Disk about three years ago after eyeing them up for years in Malibus surf shop. It was a great purchase. After three years of regular use it is holding up really well. It gets a lot of use because it goes well in any thing from thigh-high up to shoulder and handles hollow conditions better than i expected from such a round outline.

I got a 5-11 dreamcatcher this past Nov. Have only surfed it a few times but it has been really good thus far on chest+ days (which is what I wanted it for). Would def recommend it. Sticking with the spirit of this being a Chemistry thread - I think the chemzen would be a similar model to Robert's DC.

Manisses - I had a Chem solution awhile ago that I got to help step down from my funboard to a shortboard. I liked the board a lot and still use it as my super low end groveler in summer mush. If you're getting a board direct from Chem it will be 8 weeks, but maybe longer. I have heard that mid-winter and spring are a shaper's busiest times because that's right after the big trade shows when they release their new models and they get swamped with orders from all the surf shops for the spring/ summer season. My guess is that if you order from Chem now add on another 2-4 weeks. They make a bunch of models in stock so maybe try contacting Chem for a dealers list. That way you don't have to wait (if you don't mind shipping the board, I know SurfRide was one of their larger dealers). When I ordered my board I spoke with a guy named Will at Chem who was helpful.

Chem does have a lot of models that should work for an everyday east coast board (Beaker/ Beaker Comp, Flashpoint, Disks, etc.) and even though they are based in CA, they have been getting feedback for east coast waves from Mike Gleason who was an early team rider. I'm def a Chem fan and will likely be a customer again at some point. But to an earlier point, I don't have a high performance board or a board for juicer surf from them so my solution model was never placed through the ringer of OH winter surf.

Recently I have been surfing Robert's boards a lot. I use my DC and White Diamond 2 95% of the time. He also has a bunch of east coast riders (but he is a CA based shaper). My WD2 is my daily east coast board and I mostly surf in RI, NY/NJ.
