I saw 2 heats yesterday the one with job losing and mikey breanue heat I think that's his name.he got a pretty good ride at the end.and that gnarly air drop by that Brazilian kid whatever his name is.

the more years I watch these pipe contests the more I never want to go there.u see all these fancy videos and great pics,but those waves are a dime a dozen,if ur lucky.everybody thinks u go to pipe and its flawless wave after another,but u watch them and see 1 good wave come in every 3 heats.job got beat by a Brazilian,anythings possible out there,but trying to get one of those wave of the winters not in a contest with 200 people in the water is not an easy gamble

Is it supposed to be bigger today? Kelly surfing anything will make me watch. He was commentating yesterday when that 18year old Japanese kid got a drainer, and seemed just as amped as a kid. That's awesome.

Yeah...definitely! I like him...same with Wiggoly...he looked smooth and fresh in an earlier heat.

 

Does anyone here possess tube stalling skills? I can get in and out, but I'm just happy to get some shade. We don't get enough shacks here locally to contemplate tube time stalling technical skills like at Pipe, but on travels, I have developed a nice pig dog. Being a reg foot, backside tubes are more fun due to a couple reasons. It is easier for me to grab rail and set a line backside, and on steep large drops the bottom turn feels better and more controlled off the heels.

One hand drag (go elbow deep if you have to), two hand drag, a$$ drag, put your weight on the tail (temporarily), layback drag+back arm drag (if needed), Take off deeper, wait for your bottom turn-(watch the lip and closely duck it) then park it, side slide under the lip-skipping your bottom turn (pig dog), side slide in front side (trickier), break the fins loose by pointing slightly up the wave. On fast waves just lock and load.

Barrels are all about adjusting your speed and positioning, according to what the wave is doing. Usually, you need to take off deeper then you think. Practice sometimes makes perfect, ie. you gotta' pay to play. Look at how many tubes the pros don't make in a contest. That doesn't stop them from relentlessly trying, and it usually pays off. You have to constantly analyze yourself and the wave.

John John spanked them from the get go, Mike Tyson style. Made Kelly almost look his age.

 

jjf was the only one who made me say "wow."

 

Slater's 10 made the judges say wow.
