Shoot to kill on the border! Some illegal gets shot and it's hands across America. Meanwhile the border patrol agent is beheaded and no one gives a ****.
LOL. You do realize once an illegal has a baby on American soil, they start getting several entitlements to different programs. Search for a pbs special about the affects of illegal immigration, it's definitely shocking. Especially that most are on govt assistance or unemployed. The media only talks about the laborers. Once you get out in the real world and out of a classroom or internet forum, you will change your tune quickly.
I've definitely never made close to 35 dollars an hour. The most I've ever made is 17, a little less than that "half the money" you mentioned above. I don't blame Mexicans for that, I guess maybe I made poor life choices or something. So can these people outbid you because they are willing to accept a lower standard of living than you, or is it because they are getting rich off of welfare or something?
I know it's shocking that brown American citizens have the same rights as white American citizens. If you can point me to a study that shows that immigrants have, on balance, a negative effect on the economy, I'll have a look at it.
Hold on now--your response is drifting away from the topic mentioned--you are talking LEGAL immigrants, the prior poste you are responding to is talking ILLEGAL immigrants. Huge difference. Ya can't fool this old man!! BBRRRPPPPPP!!
The kids born here that he referenced aren't immigrants at all, they're natural born citizens eligible for benefits (that may, of course, be paid to their parents who do the grocery shopping).
Why do you use the word citizen? They are ILLEGAL! They break laws and get rewarded. We break laws and go to jail.
The law should be changed. They come here to pop out kids and then collect benefits on their behalf. We should ILLEGAL parents be able to have subsidized housing because they pop a kid out on American soil even though they came here illegally. That is just the tip of the iceberg. These lawbreakers are costing taxpayers millions (healthcare, penal system, welfare, housing, food stamps, eduction, the list goes on and on). I'm done paying for anchor babies and their illegal parents. Ship them all back. People just need to go back to mowing lawns and cleaning their own toilets.
liam, it is more like hundreds of millions all total. Not happy about it either. Good news is that pendulums swing both ways....hopefully.
It *can* be fixed. The laws exist on the books, it's called IRCA (Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986). Yes, "Reagan's Amnesty". It is the first law on the books that made it *illegal* to hire undocumented immigrants, and also set in place fines to employers who break those laws. Unfortunately, both Repubs and Dems alike have failed to enforce IRCA. But, if the laws were enforced, it would take away all incentives for illegals to enter and remain in the U.S. Cut and paste much, SBX? At least give credit to whomever you're quoting. 1) Stop laying the "lazy" tag on Americans. It's old, disingenuous and untrue. 2) Why should we allow illegals to work and earn money here, when we could easily improve our Worker Visa program and have *LEGAL* immigrants and non-immigrants to do the work? Additionally, we could make our workers much more diverse by allowing people from other poor countries like Nigeria, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, etc instead of a majority of low education / low skill Mexicans. Give *everybody* a chance, let them work and earn for a few years, and then THEY RETURN TO THEIR HOME COUNTRIES. END OF STORY. 3) Please cease and desist from calling illegals "immigrants". As said a million times before: Americans don't mind "legal" immigrants...however, we are sick and tired of illegals. Period.
This is a steaming pile of garbage. What do you do for a living, are you a Spin Doctor for Obama's Media Team? There are just as many studies out there that shows that *ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS* (you keep conveniently calling them "immigrants") have a more deleterious effect on the American economy as there are studies that show their so-called "positive effects". It's pretty obvious to everybody on this tread that you personally choose to turn a blind eye towards such studies. Honestly, SBX...what is your Real World Experience with illegal immigration and it's sociological and economic effects in America? I have a lifetime of empirical data that would blow your weak sauce explanations out of the water. If you love 'em so much, why don't you move about 20 into your house and pay all their bills for them? I'm pretty sure that is exactly how the rest of us Americans feel...and we're sick and tired of it. And we're sick and tired of people like you making lame-a$$ excuses for them.
Man you guys are all over the board on this one. Some good points for sure. I liked checking out the wind system on the Jennette's Pier when I surfed there. I did not like the view of the huge wind turbines on the ridge of Pupakea on the North Shore. But, I think as discussed in the drill thread...these alternatives (solar and wind) are great in steps for isolated uses...not for a massive grid overhaul...not anytime soon anyways. As for the Immigrants. Kid Rock has this discussion pretty much dialed in. Not sure who mentioned the study on the "illegals" hurting the economy (on balance they possibly help). The real issue is the cost to the taxpayers which is causing our national debt to soar (not on it's own but certainly a cost)! So, tax me more to pay for it? They are definitely gaming our porous system for all kinds of benefits. Anyway, the IRCA has not been in forced and the dream act did not help the situation. We are all immigrants (well except for some of my native roots!)...I just want to see it done legally.
Gracias, hermano. I've been teaching Immigration Law, Nationality Law, Spanish and Defensive Tactics at Federal Law Enforcement Centers in the U.S. since 1998 (sampling Folly and IOP in the process). Worked in Intelligence about the same amount of time. Did a stint in Napolitano's office (The Situation Room) for a stint from 2009-2010, which allowed me to sample OCMD and OBX. Born and raised in San Diego, I lived with an illegal onslaught for generations. Watched wets moving up the beach and through the arroyos as a kid bobbing up and down in the waves of Imperial Beach. I don't get on a soap box often, but I'll jump all over it and crush it if I have any knowledge about a subject...and I know this subject intimately.
