anybody own or have friends that own the GPS surf watches that track your speed/wave count/etc? Last months Surfer Mag had a big article on them. I don't think I'd want to distract from the whole surf experience by getting all scientific about it. My girlfriend bought me a GoPro a few years ago and I found it just interfered with just going and being, and became about getting good pix/video.
    Thoughts?

Sometimes GoPros can start to take your focus away from surfing and on to social media.

You need to put yourself in the mindset of slapping a GoPro on your board for fun, and not worrying too much about getting the perfect wave JUST because the GoPro is there.

Same thing goes with the surf watch.

Resist that temptation. I put a good fishfinder on my boat and I find myself fidling with that more than fishing sometimes. Had a go pro years ago and found myself worrying about whether it was on or not. Have a Soloshot and have ruined whole sessions trying to get the perfect shot. Technology is cool but not when it gets in the way of the the activity it's meant to enhance.

I'm not a gadget guy, more of a minimalist, and prefer the KISS principle.

im not into go pros or any electronics while I'm out. sometimes i wear a watch if i have to go somewhere but usually i go when it gets dark. kind of old school when it comes to stuff like that, i just like to have fun, goof around, talk smack and occasionally scare myself real bad

One needs to paddle up to the nerds with gopros and rip them off of their boards. Either toss them or hand it back to owner.

It would be pretty hard to rip something off of a board when it is secured with 3M tape.
