Got out this afternoon for a little over an hour. Surf wasn't much, so little to report other than I made it out and caught few short rides. Felt good though. Water temp 39. Air in low 50s.

Looking at North Melbourne hopefully, finding lots of places around Wickam Park, Eau Gallie, SR 1, and Pineda Causeway areas that we like. 5-10 minutes from PAFB and Satellite

Got a midmorning session in today. Surfed the spot where I learned to surf a hundred years ago. I haven't been back in ages. It was waist high with bigger and they were clean and peeling perfect for drop knee cut backs and nose rides. It was also really cold. Too cold to change outside, We drove over to my folks house and changed in their garage.

While we were out there, We got to talking how surfing in the winter still gets you a look from folks not in the know who think you must be crazy, and I guess it is bizarre but today there was something even more bizarre on the beach. There was a F ing Mine sweeper! Dude had the sweeper, the earphones, and the can on a stick.
I mean the sand is frozen. My booties didn't have any on them when I took them off. Plus who is on the beach right now losing loose change and jewlery? You're a dedicated surfer to go surf in these conditions but you must be an insanely addicted treasure hunter if you go in this weather to sweep the beach. I hope he finds some dubloons.

Got a Matzo ball soup and a pastrami on rye afterward. So good.

So what's happening? Anybody else been surfing?

Got a decent surf in this morning. It was a bizarre little swell though....it was almost dead flat last night then we had this quick jump in swell and it looked really good first thing this morning at dead high tide (maybe chest high) then as soon as the tide changed it dropped in size and went away as fast as it arrived. It was probably the quickest jump in size to flat again conditions I can ever remember. The wind was blowing but not insanely so. I asked my wife to bring the camera out when she walked the dog cause I wanted to take some water shots so the first pic is of me when she brought the camera out and the other is when the weather started to clear up but the size was beginning to drop. On a positive note though our water temp was up to 54 degrees. Like I said bizarre day.

    Looks nice fiend well done.

So it looks like the whole coast is getting some kind of swell today except right where I am. If you surfed today, be kind and post up a story about it. Gives us something good to read today.

    Thanks,

I'm jealous PeeJay, I checked it yesterday morning. Looked like some really fun lines coming in but the tide was killing it. I knew once the tide filled in and than started dropping it would be fun. Unfortunately I had other obligations. Glad you got some waves! Looks like we may have some waves in the near future. Woop woop!

I was hoping for yesterday afternoon, but the swell didn't stick around here. Secretly I was happy, it was way too cold.

Hour and a half today in OCMD around mid-day after the early high tide dropped and the little north swell started feeling the bottom right. knee-thigh peeling lefts pretty glassy with about a 5-10 offshore blowing. Fun waves for a log or mini simmons type board. The sun was intensely warm...i dont think i've ever been so warm in air 28 / water 38 conditions. Toasty in a 4/3 could have easily done another hour and a half but a south breeze came up.

I think that place you've been checking, because the other place is closed, isn't breaking that well. I checked it yesterday too before I moved on. I'm glad I did move on. Last time I looked there and bagged going out. turned out to be good in other places. It was dumping right on the beach yesterday and you could have short boarded into little death bombs but I didn't have a short board. A little further on it had a much better shape.
Might take another road trip next week. Just got to see if I can swing it.

Sounds nice Mitchell. Thanks for posting.

Anybody else been surfing this week? Looks like swell was hitting some places. Post your story here and tell us what happened.

I agree. I try to stay away from that spot unless it is big. Monday afternoon was really good there, but besides that iv not been impressed. Iv been spoiled with the spot that's closed. Could be knee high, high tide and it will be peeling still. Love it there. I feel lost without it. Going to have to start venturing out to some of this keeps up. That or just risk the ticket and go to the closed spot anyway.

How much could the summons be anyway? might be worth it if you have a full car and everyone chips in.

Got out at Sunrise today, water was colder than normal, maybe 59-60 if I had to guess, waves were chest to head high occasional plus sets. It had a little morning sickness and the tide was way up and coming in fast too, current was strong N to S, semi choppy big chunky drifty fun, shore pound was f'ing relentless, still managed to score some good sections, it got better as the morning went on and the tide began to go back out.

Wave of the day was an overhead left with a steep drop that I dug my bottom turn in and avoided some dude in the impact zone and came back up and hit the lip and then another turn and finished with a little cutback off the lip. The new fins I got really worked well too, which was fun getting a little different feeling out of the same board.

Wow DP! You had a ton of fun :) we had a blast too-- I gotta agree with you on the relentless shore pound. And the water sure chilled down today, didn't it? There were 3 teenage girls in bikinis paddling out shrieking -- they didn't last long in that cold, but it was fun watching them shriek.

You had a nice keeper wave to hold you over until the next time.

Good stuff DP and Betty, but I need some kind of filter that blocks any complaints from Floridians about water temperature!

It was chest to shoulder high swell with a hard onshore from the ENE and a good drift and it took awhile to paddle out. I got a few nice chunks on the outgoing tide this afternoon with only one other guy out. It was kind of gnarly. The last one was a nice left with a backside reentry to a nice inside section and almonst ot the beach from the outside bar.

What was cool and unusual was a horse rescue association had a polo exhibition on the beach near the break. Real nice, beautiful, and very expensive poloponys in the sand with riders, mallets and a beachball. It was slow going for the horses in the sand, the crowd was very diverse and drunk on champagne, more or less. Another day at the beach.

That sounds so surreal...two winters ago there was a group of about 15 tall Haitians all dressed in white cotton-like robes flowing in the breeze, singing in Creole on the beach before dunking someone in the ocean-- it was like some type of fever dream...

Haha I hear ya, no complaints here though, just stating that the water temp was cooler than usual lately, felt nice once I got going out there.
