4.9 ft @ 10 seconds was the buoy report last time I checked and surfline and swellinfo said flat. Saw a few pictures that showed some little swell. What's up with this? Is it a glitch with the buoys, wrong swell direction for my spot, or am I just trippin out on waves I didn't even miss

The 091 says that for 8:50pm, but look at the rest of the day. The 091 doesn't have all the desired info imo, so I check the 065 to cross-reference. On the 065, when its 9 sec or higher, just pay attention to swell height, not wave height.

Where is ShartHuffer when you need him?

we had this thread last year about the same time.
    the buoy is likely frozen.

Unless a bouy gives you wave direction and wind direction, it is useless to tell where the waves are going. You asre then better off depending on a visual, or even, dare I say it, Swellinfo??

Not this time. The 091 doesn't report all of the details like the 065. The significant swell shift showed up at 8:50pm, like I said. If you check the data trend, you'll see that the 091 and the 065 are both working fine.

Yes, what other buoys are there?

Did Shart Huffer start his own network because NOAA wasn't up to his caliber?

Same here with the pipes. After 40 years of winters in NJ, I'm really getting tired of it. Time to move south.

There are others. Up here in NH University of NH has a set of bouys, Canada has bouys out there. They all have different IDs on them.

I surfed alone from about 9-10:20. I was at the south end of Belmar. One guy got out of the water as I was getting in. It was way bigger than 2-3 foot, that's all I gotta say. There was a decent amount of energy out there and some sneaker sets that crept up on you if you weren't paying attention. I would call the set waves a SOLID 4 foot, but mostly thumpy closeouts. I got like 2 that made it worth it. Water was beyond freezing, air not too bad, sun was out. I got changed at the beach outta my work clothes, and changed back into them in the hoopty and headed off to Cubeland afterwards. Not a pleasant changing session post-surfing.

Still looks fun on the cams. Now they are calling it 3-5 ft on Surfline. I feel vindicated. As I free-fell and ate sh*t into the flats on a set wave this morning, I was thinking to myself on the way to the bottom, "Self, if I just ate it on a 3 foot wave, why am I taking such a tumbling?" Enjoy it if you get it.
