what a douche! Did you hear this guy talk about what he thinks "the ultimate waterman" is... haha.

His first description is "humble"... then he jumps right into talking about himself in the 3rd person " one of the best athletes in the world"

The focked up part.... is that the general public gets their mental image of surfers from this guy.

the weird planing board thing is cool though.

Some engineer designed the "T" shape blade that harnesses the wave energy below the surface. The original board design had a chair which was really weird; then Laird fasten ski boots to the deck like straps on his tow boards. Laird with a few other big wave riders designed a chest & back vest similar to models fisherman wear that operates on CO2 cylinders that inflates automatically that pops them up for tow ski rescue.

yeah, didn't they show that thing in Step into Liquid? I know I've seen a video with him riding on that thing before. Watching those waves peel in that video just made me jones for some truly good surf even more. Too bad he wasted them on that hydroplane board, IMO. I guess whatever blows your skirt up...

This is not new--he has been using that foil for 10 years now. The design for that was actually "stolen" if you will from the Americas Cup--15 years ago or so, one of the boats first used that design on the keel of their boats. This was prior to the Cup boats going to catamarans. Nevertheless, applying it to surfing is innovative in my opinion...

Yeah, I do as well. But we have to give him credit for doing things differently and for doing so consistently.

saw him in Kauai in January riding his foil at Hanalia Bay **** Brewer and Felipe Pomar were saying it was the biggest waves that they could remember 60 /100 ft. faces douch or not the guy can do what most sane people would cringe over.

indeed. you have to respect the guys physical abilities/accomplishments..and I do... but hearing someone that has those abilities talk and act like he does... is really irritating. To each his own...I guess

"Laird was born in an experimental salt-water sphere at UCSF Medical Center designed to ease the mothers labor" and because his father was a fu(kin merman

"In 2007, when Brett Lickle was towing Hamilton into a wave on the Maui north shore, a wave knocked Lickle from the watercraft. The fin on a surfboard sliced Lickle, causing him to bleed into the sea, which he feared would attract sharks. Hamilton swam to recover the watercraft, found Lickle in the surf, fashioned his swimsuit into a cloth tourniquet, and applied it to Lickle to save his life. Hamilton then piloted the watercraft back to a landing, buck naked, where Lickle was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment." Like a boss

I didn't watch the video posted because I know he's annoying, but he is the best of the "watermen" and he's American so suck it Polynesia
