The thing that really is going to piss you guys off is when you realize they use infant whale oil to lubricate the jetski propeller.

Dunno, it's pretty cold out right now. Would you like to spend 3 hours paddling and freezing you butt off and making 5 of these waves or spending 3 hours and catching/making 50 waves?

People griped about pwc's in the ASP contests too, but eventually everyone got over themselves.

If you wouldn't want to be slung into tubes then you must have something against fun. Saw the video here and seen the ski and thought" looks like fun" saw the surfermag video and though "looks fraudulent"

It's not the ski assist its editing it out and not mentioning it in the surfline and surfermag pieces. Showing clips of surfers paddling out and sitting in the lineup hinting that the waves were earned the hard way. The editor of the video knew what he was doing

Maybe its not them though. Maybe the sites knew it wouldn't get any respect with the ski's in it so they edited it or demanded it that way. Only they know. Shoulda named it "Messing Around Between the Pines", but then it would of sounded like that gay porn MIS made a while back

Still got to be a man to get pitted like that though. You're just more of a man if you paddle and make it

The haters are just jealous. Heck I'm Jealous. Makes me want to go buy a ski. Bottom line is the waves in that video, particularly the biggest ones, are unmakable for 99.99999% of all surfers while wearing a 6mm wetsuit along with 7mm boots and mittens. Not only are they unmakable, they are nearly impossible to get positioned properly without the ski.

I've tried surfing conditions like that in the winter here in NJ and its futile and frustrating. You can't get into position. You try and try but you are always just enough out of position that you either can't get in or you're too deep and going to get wrecked. With the suit and mittens you also can't generate the paddle power to get over the ledge the way you could even in a 4/3 with regular gloves. Meanwhile you're getting colder and colder and that hour and a half you can be effective in the brutal cold is ticking away.

Not to mention the free ride out the back without getting flushed 5 times in the impact zone. Dang, I'm Jealous!@!

If you guys would just get the appropriate size boards rather than the dumbass potato chips, catching waves is not a problem. Get one that can "glide" you to your perfect spot. No need for jet ski, unless you love inhaling gas fumes.....
Oh, wait, having a board a few inches larger than what you "cool buddies" are using is soooo embarrassing, isn't it?
    hahahahahaha!!!

I've never seen anyone using a ski in person. Only exposure Iv gotten is videos posted on here. I got to say that most of the footage Iv seen of guys using skis are on completely makeable paddle days. That I got no respect for just because there is no need. Yeah you get more waves but the paddle out/paddling into position is a big part of surfing. If you can't paddle out and into position on a 5-8 foot day (assuming it's makeable paddling), in most cases you probably shouldn't be out there any way. Like I said though, this is assuming it's makeable like most of the EC ski footage Iv seen. This video in not like those others Iv seen though. For one it looked like it was breaking right on shore in very shallow water. Secondly I don't think most people would be able to make those waves paddling. I don't think I could. Using a ski for something like that is totally respectable. That was some nice footage and wa nice to see a ski used in proper conditions for once.

That's a loaded question. Everyone is different.

If your board is big enough, and you paddle hard enough to stay below the lip, your in.

Hesitate in any way, and you'll be in flight school.

You are obviously a clueless kook if you think board size has any effect on surfing a ledging wave that the bottom completely drops out of.

It's all about the glide when surfing a wave that sucks out 10 ft from dry sand. Luckily you have lots of time to formulate an opinion from all the time you spend sitting on the beach *****ing about tides and how those youngins can ride their potato chips and gains virtually no weight from all the extra calories.
