Yep. Only way to influence the pols in any way is to make it such a big issue that they think it would hurt their chances at reelection. Even then little chance anything would be done. More likely just a bunch of spin and political BS. Just the usual dog and pony show. The pols will do whatever their masters tell them. And that's not us.
The issue of whether or not the Atlantic will be open to drilling will be made by the head of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management. She has stated that she will not open the Atlantic if public opinion is deemed to be very much against it. That's why it's important to go to the public meetings or submit comments online. You can do so here: http://boemoceaninfo.com/get-involved/ The only reason the BOEM is considering opening the Atlantic is because of pressure from the governors of VA,NC,SC, and GA. So if you are in those state, write your gov a letter.

Kinda like, we want to build a 1000 oil rigs but because we're so accomodating we'll compromise and only build 850 rigs. Aren't we so considerate? Gov. of SC, Nikki Haley has aspirations for running for higher office which is hard to finance with out big money backing you, hence the drill baby drill.
and SC pounds on america. we are already hearing how the 'blanche dubois' of the us senate is presidential....

As someone who grew up along this coast though and with everything that it means to me, I can't sit idly by and watch it get destroyed. Going to forums and writing letters might not seem like much, but at least it's something and if we all put forth just a little effort it might make major ripples. Like I said in an earlier post, there really isn't that much oil out there. Barely enough to run the US for 6 months if that. There is a groundswell of opposition and coastal towns are starting to pass resolution opposing the plan. If we can make a big enough stink, I really think we can at least delay this and maybe reinstate the moratorium on drilling in the Atlantic good ole G.W. Bush repealed before leaving office.
I absolutely deplore that dude!! Once you get elected here it is almost impossible to lose. I don't get it. People b*tch and moan and then reelect them.He said he wants boots on the ground in Syria so I suggested his be the first!
I'm with ya surfnut just not optimistic about it. No point in writing a letter to my guv (NC), Mr. Coal Ash takes his orders from Art Pope and the Koch bros.

I grew up here as well and I would rather walk the rest of my life than to see our coast experience what happened on the gulf coast. I've contacted most of my representitives and let them no I cannot support any canidate for any office who puts money ahead of the well being of their constituents.
The Koch Brothers provide jobs for 60,000 persons within their companies. That is a lot of taxes for you socialists. What part of success do you have a problem with? BTW, denigrating the Koch brothers is the mantra of the left wing, hence my assertion to socialism, a policy of failure. It identifies your allegiance to them. Think independently- it will serve you better.
I have a problem with the Koch brothers financially backing various Western 'conservation' organizations that ultimately would like to rid our continent of predators. For that, and that alone, I say crucify them.
I know nothing about that, but I would not be surprised that it is exaggeration in that to some measure or other. I do not believe 99% of things I read in any media. Never have; never will.
I wish it were exaggeration Barry...and I know that was unrelated, just kinda belched from my fingertips.
Perfectly okay, imho. But politics aside....I cannot wait for this winter to end!! I usually go surfing 2-3 times a week during winter. This year it has been wayyyyyy too cold for that. I am getting ye ol' ants in my pants...pacing back and forth.
Dude, I haven't been out in 3 weeks now...it's frigid up here and i was sick as fark last week. Waiting to be 100% before I get back in.
Barry, admit it, you're Rush Limbaugh right?(kidding)The Koch brothers inherited their wealth from Fred Koch who, although supposedly despised Communism, had no problem working with Joseph Stalin to make his fortune. Hey, a bucks a buck right? The Koch bros. are the poster child for the 1%. They've increased their fortune by harming the enviroment and practically buying the US goverment one politician at a time. They supported re segregation in NC school system, defunding education and eroding labors rights just to name a few . And, on another subject, do you really think the US is still a capitolistic country? More of a oligarchic society to me. For the record I don't particularly like either party.
