Got it fun but never firing, what's this place take to work other than some west winds and lots of swell. Dreaming of scoring some slabby barrels and it's only alittle over an hour from my home

The waves are way better in jersey. All the guys down here go there or the obx if they really want to score. Yea we do have a few epic days but for the most part the waves are funky and close out. Can't really handle any big swells either. Yearly beach replenishment has ruined most of the sandbars. Now the only spots that are any good are all uptown near DE

For my money the sandbars in OCMD aren't much different right now than they were 10 or 15 years ago.

Beach nourishment jacks them up for a few seasons now just like it did 20 years ago. In the summer the sand works its way back up onto the beach and creates those deep shorebreak conditions, in the winter the sand works back out onto the sandbars and you get what we have now: too shallow at low, perfect bar break at high tide.

This winter that NE windswell W/NW wind combo that makes the magic has been rare.

From late October - it hasn't done this very much lately:

No OCMD expert here, I must've got lucky when I was out there. That's when I found out about SI. Seems I always got it good on 2'-4' east swells at 7 second intervals during the winter I was there. Medium tide going high. But I defer to Mitchell the Man. He seems to have that place locked down.

Bethany beach(just a few miles up the road) gets some of the most gnarly tubes anytime there i s a good east swell with like 10-15 mph w winds. It loves to get big there, but can be shore breaky if they are dredging.

Ocean City can be good at times. It does get big but at those times a good option is to go to Assateague Island deeper water longer runs less crowds. Kind of reminds me of the Outer Banks

Been tying to surf this dump for thirty years: No more than 8 secs, 4-5 feet, light NW, mid/incoming - even that is a crap shoot, but at least almost everywhere in town is good when it's good. Can be like a small day in calli when it's "going off" , but mostly sucks; good practice sometimes. If you can pull a good surf on ocmd, most other places are easy. Seems like it was better 20 years ago when the jettys were out.
