medina deserved the heat...scores are really relative to heat...not one heat to the other...as long as the scale is set per heat...scoring seems, imo, pretty good. I think these days to be a successful pro, you need to have power, air, tube and balls. If you got all 4, your gonna succeed on tour. just something about medina bugs me, I think its the immaturity factor...really not sure what the hell it is or maybe its the language barrier thats the problem and has trouble carrying himself in interviews....imo, dude rips tho and looks to be able to handle the ballsie stuff too...making him pretty well rounded dane looked horrible...just look like the board lacked float or more likely, he just couldn't find a wave to stand up for him.
last heat against kelly...he was going for it...and won? I know he was playing it safe early in the event but was going for it later...I think there was some doubt about him in the bigger stuff...seemed to handle it good to me...as well as some of the other bigger events.
Dane did look awful in round 1 but I'm excited to see him surf against Mick in the next round, hopefully they get some waves. Fun match up with two different styles
No. He deliberately went for the smaller runners. He said it was his strategy to not go for the bombs. Slater and Florence were going for the bombs and put on a hell of a show. And you have to look at who he faced on the way to final too. The JJF/Slater side of the draw was way heavier. Semifinal 2 was the final in my opinion. I hate to see someone surf smart as they say and win.
Dane is like 190 Medina is like 130 With those conditions it was tailor made for the light tiny guy to win. Not much he could do.
Apparently they are trying to run today at DBAH which will be better for Dane against Mick. I picked dane so I hope he gets at least to R3.
Here is a tidbit. Waltzing matilda which is a very popular Australian song actually is not about dancing It has to do with Australian hobos "swagmen" walking with all of their belongings on their back swaying back and forth in a sort of waltz. Are they gonna run today?
I remember when they dropped marzo which is the stupidest thing.theres plenty of others on quik team that shouldn't be there,i wont name any names.also I read an old rolling stone feature on clay marzo a few weeks back, and they said strider wasilewski(I guess he runs quicksilver now?) was saying not to sponsor marzo because hes a lazy pothead that doesn't like to talk.thats not his exact quote but something like that.first off I could never tell if marzo was stoned, and if he is,which they claim he is,it has no affect on his performance.and strider, the guy on the lost videos hitting on 12yr olds, drinking, smoking, partying.I used to like strider until I read that shyt, marzo would dust him anyday
Yeah. The sh!t Marzo pulls is crazy. They dropped him, but kept some little pu$$ies because they have instagram followers. That's one thing Dane has going for him. Without Kelly they need Dane to have any credibility.
Jesus you guys do any homework?! Marzo has a social disorder, maybe aspergers. Amazing surfer but very reclusive and unpredictable socially. Now there are a lot of guys who should and could be on tour but it isn't for everybody. These Brazilians are making people look crazy stupid in small surf. Dane looked like he had no business being out there in small snapper! Everything isn't a conspiracy. We used to say Slater was over scored for years! Medina's surfing is so over analyzed now and for good reason. You may not like his style but he surfs his way and doesn't try to be something he isn't. He takes what he can do and does it too perfection. Not many Brazo's are well rounded and hang in big surf at a contest with Kelly. Medina has the talent and the head to compete and win. It's called being objective for you young kids. Take your personal attitudes out of it. Kelly Slater happens to be my fav. But it's a new day in the WSL. Better get used to i!!
Guess I wasn't referring to you nynj. All I know is Marzo not cut out for the tour. It's a grind and you can't be a mess in the head.
