You getting any water dripping into the PVC and getting to the fan? or are there some holes on the bottom of the elbows to allow drainage while air flows up? Looks nice, make a little build list (how much footage of PVC, etc) for us if you haven't yet.
I rinse my gear off in the shower then let it drip for about 30 minutes. I ring the excess water out before using the dryer. Here are some pics and a build list. 4 - 1" 90 degree angles 1 - 1" 4 way I used super glue and glued in 4 pieces of pvc about 6" long and then used a dremel to cut out a hole for the fan I used 1/2" pvc as legs. I just used a file to slightly round them to fit the pvc better. Then super glued them on Then I took 4 - 1 foot sections of 1" pvc, drilled a few holes for the air to move, sanded down so their were no sharp spots and super glued them in place. You can go on ebay and get a fan cheap http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-Pc-HXH-Br...235?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c4edfdcfb And the plug http://www.ebay.com/itm/12V-1A-120V...748?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43bfe526bc I had the pcu fan from an old computer, I just had to buy the plug and pvc. Hope this helps OldSoul!
Nice job Z. I think I'll grab some PVC parts next time I'm at the hardware store. One mod I'm thinking of making is that instead of using the fan, I have a floor vent in my bathroom and I could maybe drill a hole in the 4-way and insert a funnel, and place the unit over the floor vent with funnel directing air into the system (I just need to make sure that the arms don't extend to far, as the floor vent has a close proximity to the wall). If this doesn't work sufficiently, I can always retrofit the small fan. Thanks again for posting!
Cape, even this style, you could always place it near the floor vent to add a little warm air. Good luck and thanks, man!
The commercial versions have a heating element as well you can switch on and off and they use a timer so you don't need to remember to turn off. Seems like pretty simple mods. Between one of these and a Hang Air for the wetsuit itself, you are good to go even with thick Xcel stuff that never wants to dry.
I'm a diy kind of guy, so that's why I went this route. Plus I saved money. I am using 5mm Xcel Drylock gloves, and it does a great job drying them. Timer is the only thing I'm lacking, I just have to remember to unplug it.
Dude you should market that.. Seriously before someone else... It's kinda like the peet boots drier without the heat- which is good cause I think the heat over time breaks down the neoprene...
Also- I just thought it would be a good idea to make the base of this the size of a 5 gallon bucket so you could set it on top of the bucket to collect water... Dude thanks- great idea I'm goning to make one!
Ha ha, glad I could help. I would say, at this size, it would fit on a 5 gallon bucket perfectly. I let my gloves and boots drip dry for about 30 minutes, then ring out excess water before using the dryer. That way they are not soaking wet dripping water into the fan. ZAP!
cool but if you are boxing up there air, doesn't it need a way to escape so moisture doesn't build up and keep the inside of it too humid?
love this! ive been shoving empty toilet rolls into boots and gloves and put them up right on the floor grill!
