This thread reminds me of why I do not like to watch people paid to surf, surf. I have limited surf video viewing experience (why watch some dude surf when you can be surfing), however, in "Bustin down the Door", those guys in the 70's made it a point to be tactful, respectable, etc.

Barry, I have seen you make points on both ends of the spectrum. I was surprised to see you react in this way...Perhaps I don't read enough posts on here...

Could it be argued that the demeanor and skill on guys like MR, Rabbit and Shawn Thompson for example made all of this possible? Oh, I didn't mention any Hawaiians...guess that makes me a racist a-hole...

Who wants to get self-righteous on the Web site with me? Well, I probably won't be looking at threads any more today so go on with your bad self. I can't wait to look this up one day in boredom to see who is master ripper on here and knows just that much more about what they are spewing on a keyboard.

Guy is likely a douche considering he is a professional surfer and a lot of them can be if you aren't tight with them. Let's say you met him in real life...would he be happy to have your support? Hey, speaking of baseball, most of those guys don't even respond to the kids that idolize them. I'm telling ya, this is so "Big Fan"...

"Hi, I am an adult male in the United States with my own problems and responsibilities. I care about what some guy without my problems and resposibilities is doing becasue he is good at something that doesn't make me a better person or put food on the table and keep a roof over my dry head."

    Man, I am done typing

In any normal lineup Medina had the right of way. On the tennis tour the rules are different.

No it was Medina getting to his feet, but Hall had priority at that point in the heat, not Medina. In man-on-man heats "right of way" doesn't exist, only priority. Medina totally blew it taking off on that wave, when his opponent had priority. Really amateurish move for a champ.

I disagree. Professional surfing is professional surfing. As a surfer myself, I thoroughly enjoy watching pro's rip apart good waves. Sometimes I even like watching them surf lesser waves, because it expands my awareness of what's possible in average/below average NJ surf. Contests allow you to see the full gamut, not just the best clips, giving you perspective. They fall, and catch sh!tty waves too. Watch Pipe, and you'll learn barrel riding is a numbers game. For every tube they make, they get pounded on another. You can learn a lot by watching, listening to, and surfing with pro's. It's inspiring to say the least. I don't pant over pro's, they're surfers just like me, only better. I've had the opportunity to hang and surf with quite a few, and it wasn't about "omg, it's really you" lol, it was about sharing something we love. That's a positive experience in my book.

Pro surfers interviewing on a global webcast, with millions of people watching should mind their p's and q's. They should attempt to display humility and sportsmanship, because it's a good example for life in general. Being positive, and sending out positive vibes regardless of a negative situation is a good thing. It's desirable.

Cry baby, is Brasil's "hero", and people in other countries' hero too. He didn't act like a hero on last nights international webcast, he acted like an a$$hole, which sets a bad example on a large scale, and is a let down for many. Cry baby dumped his crappy vibes on the entire surfing world. That's a globally negative experience in my book.

Cry baby set a bad example on a large scale, and it's out of our control whether we like it, or disagree with it, or not. It is, what it is; negative.

    unless its contrived.
kanyes' sales went up after he on-stage bullied the pasty white singer at the grammys.

The priority rule is a good one, for good reason, and it's not kept secret from cry baby.

Would you b!tch out a cop, and a judge because you failed to come to a complete stop at a stop sign? I hope not. You should know the rules, and humbly accept what happens when you blow it, because nobody f'd up but you.

I do not learn from professional surfers. Do not need them.
You have fallen victim to marketing--you have been delivered to the product managers.
Same in all sports; it is all about the money. Is there anything wrong with it?? No, earning money is great. But your post advocates, as well as those of others, to appear to worship them as heroes. Following what they say or do is mindless. They are morons. Period.
    Again, same in all sports.

Ha, I sort of remember Kanye shouldering the girl away from the podium while she was in the middle of speaking, and taking over.

What does cry baby have to gain though? The judges are less likely to be stoked on his surfing, which would impede his advancement through heats, in turn reducing the money he makes per contest. I think his sponsors would be less stoked too. I don't think his fans are going to buy more Medina albums either.

    Who cares?

He didn't even say anything that bad except for dropping the F bomb.

Overly dramatic reaction to a NON story.

its all BS plan and simple. I did not hear him complaining when they stopped PIPE, and then PIPE went off half an hour later,.. last season. That was BS and they could have ran dual heats and got like ten heats in, at least, before their lease time ended. >>Notice how they keep telling you to check back in at 11 then 12:30 then 2, etc etc, but they sure as **** did not want to run the contest in real waves since that would f up the sponsors and rankings/title run. And it sure as **** would have. They could have called the contest back on just the same as they called it off and cleared the water but they did not and everyone has seen the video showing that there were plenty of contestable waves, period. So if no one called KP out at that event "what difference does it make" (hillary clinton) it real crap waves?
And yes Medina is correct in that respect, the waves were/ have been crap at this first event. And if they want to been seen as (wsl) as having a clue then be damn the event location,,as they already stated,, that area of the coast had already made their money days ago. With no real plan B for surfing spots, meaning a real plan B like having to drive an hour somewhere else! its the damn 2015, internet, web cams, mobile everything!! spend the money on a damn satellite truck! Think outside the box for craps sake.

Btw, J Flores got got screwed, "brother" is legit, but 8.73 was BS. And while we are at it, they are long over due to get rid of those worthless booth heads!! so sick of hearing then run their slanted crap ever contest. its so old, same crap over and over justifying before a score drops how they/sponsors approve of one surfer moving on over another. And truth be told is that once you speak out against the judges they are a bunch of vindictive losers. Freddie P. has been getting the shaft for years now and J. Flores is being taught a lesson as well. you speak out and they screw you over and you will not get a fair assessment of your wave performance, IMO. Now the question becomes what if anything will happen to Medina since so much money is involved with the sponsors and he seems to be their new golden boy.
And Bobby M. Needs to get a wild card like Dane M. at a few of these events, some major sponsor needs to pick him up just to spice things up a bit, it would sell for sure and and i suspect his performance would be no worst.
SO over all Medina speaking out is not the issue, its just that he just did not have any real reason to ***** about anything. Making all that money and hes crying about an interference call. Just thats why they call him Baby Gabby.
