Guess you are still riding a down railed single fin right? I mean lets be real here Barry...you may not surf like them, but in today's surf culture and "surfing" we are all somewhat indebted to them. Again to reiterate my point--lets say you are not riding a shortie, but ride a fish, LB, etc.--the ride anything movement guys (which includes "pros") you would likely be riding something else. Whether or not you want to accept it...pro's do influence you, me, and everyone else...welcome aboard. Worship them eh...smh. Funny that you're posting on this thread about professional surfing given your opinion...Baddy was right.
Yeah, I ride all board shapes, always have, and I have a few of them. But I do not look to pros to see "what are they riding". As I said before--they are morons. I make my own decisions, independent of them. They have zero influence on me. All my boards are custom made; they had zero input into them. And you know, maybe I influenced them...you have no idea, right? Ya never know....
don't know. i'll guess and say he's in on it. think about it - what is lost with a public tirade on/about the commissioner? i'll guess again and say not much. if you're selling a brand there seems to me to be more to be gained here than lost... i mean from all the commotion. notoriety is by its very definition publicity.
Ya gotta have good guys and bad guys to keep it interesting. I personally don't care for surf contest at any level allthough I can see the argument that pro surfers push technology along at a faster pace.
Simon Anderson was the shaper...and a pro surfer who promoted it. Cheyne Horan was pushing oddball single fins at the time (and others on twinnies) Anderson proved (at contest venues) the thruster was the better board.
This^: Theres no such thing as bad press! I think it was in poor taste because the whole even has been has been pretty terrible for most of the surfers - I would imagine they're all frustrated and just totally over the event. Overall this is just another step in the terrible & tacky NFL approach. I wouldn't doubt at all that they encouraged him to respond that way. Look how much media coverage it got? Even though everyone is just going to hate Medina they'll all know his name. They most likely won't even know he's a surfer though so no worries!
Why do you think pro surfers are morons? There are plenty, but I'm sure there are plenty of smart ones too. What's dumb about making a career out of something you love? Seems kind of smart to me
Making a career out of something they love is the ONLY smart thing they do. Have you ever had a conversation with a "pro" surfer?? They are no different than a pro golfer. They know little else.
That is but one example. Not ALL improvements to gear were thought of by "pros". You are committing the faux logic of proof by N=1. Not proof. Of course, there is Roy as well that you can quote....<grin>
don't worry about me drinking barry , and if I do , hide your sisters, girlfriends and wives ahhahah you know barry we probably have crossed paths down in the 00677 , hope I didn't stuff you ooopppssss
Hey, what's a stuff amongst friends??? Nada. Are you planning another trip to PR anytime soon? place has changed, and not really for the better either. But, still great place to go for a few days of warm waters and waves.
No. Not all. Only those who have to work at it. Not all do. And a few actually branch out to know things other than one area. But, to each their own.
BubonicsP had it right. It's not like he beat up his girlfriend, he is a young turk who dropped the f bomb. Bad form, but only punishable if his sponsors deem so. The tour may be a bit biased towards certain sponsors golden geese, but every big time sport is. I like to watch the pros to see how they handle the different conditions, and to see progressive surfing in a competitive format. It is not the be all end all, it is not the entire sport/art of surfing, but it is fun to watch IMO. And, yes, Gabby is a little crybaby. What a douchenozzle. Always has been, always will be.
