Horizontal wall racks in unheated garage, out of direct light through windows. 12" shelf brackets screwed to studs, with 2x2 wooden baluster stock. Three bucks per rack

That was my question.. About sunlight through windows. Dangerous? Maybe not direct but ambient...

Garage. Raccoons would eat Em outside. Florida raccoons are vicious nasty creatures.

    Dear frost,

Yes your correct, over time even sunlight through windows can damage a board. It will not a make a board in rideable but it will yellow the foam over time (maybe years). So the board will not longer be white but yellow

Try making a board rack out of pvc pipe- it's easy and cheap- plus at lowes they have black and gray pipe so it doesn't stick out like wire pipe. Use 1/2 to inch size

I've always left mine outside, just no room inside the house. But i also have no problems with them having legs, living so far off the road and with no neighbors. I have found however that my shortboards get yellow faster when they're outside. OF course, not always out of direct sunlight, but generally they are.

all my boards are weather beaten.iv always figured u surf in the ocean with sunlight, which makes dark uv rays or something like that, all I know is uv is worse at the beach than land.so u surf everyday with the same board for years, whats the difference of leaving it outside?iv left my boards in snow, rain, sun, etc.never really had any problems, these aren't brand spankin new boards so discoloration isn't a big issue.my neighbors leave their boards outside.if I wanted to be a d1k I could take them but im not a thief.il take one of the boards and see somebody on here start a thread about a missing board lol

Inside the house, yes. I have a rack in my basement, out of direct sunlight, constant temp and no, it doesn't put the lotion on.

All surfboard resins... polyester resins and epoxies... contain UV inhibitors, which are pretty effective at keeping the resins and foam underneath from deteriorating. In other words, it significantly stops the materials from losing their mechanical properties, specifically impact resistance, tensile strength, and elongation... all important factors in surfboard construction. But the cumulative effects of hours of exposure to UV does result in discoloration, as we all know. So if you want to keep your boards whiter for longer... or keep your colors from changing or fading... keep them out of the sun.
