storing boards inside vs outside

Actually you'd be surprised at being complacent can lead to them growing legs. I left my Quiet Flight outside on my grandmothers porch on chairs like a rack, which had direct beach access and all rural beach area in Vero Beach. Had a friend staying the night, we saw 2 figures come up the walk way from the beach and head into the porch. We ran down and chased them up the beach, whoever decided to ditch the board and get away from us. Always kept my board inside after dark from that point on. I thought who the **** is going to steal a stick in a wealthy beach community. Anyone will, given the chance. Lesson learned!

 

it's amazing how cool boards look as wall hangings. But if that isn't your flavor, the garage racks are cool.

 

Vero Beach and rural is a contradiction in terms ...

I'm always worried about garage storage with regards to excessive summer heat.

 

Unless you have an epoxy board with an XPS core (extruded polystyrene foam as opposed to expanded EPS, which is more typical) you really don't have to worry too much about heat. Even boards with XPS cores are vented these days, which pretty much solves the problem.

 

Ive kept my quiver of five boards stored outside for about 10 years in a custom made board rack that sat underneath my deck up until six months ago when they finally got a spot indoors . All the boards were kept off of the ground, were covered from rain, and were limited to uv exposure for all but three or four hours of the day, those being from about 8am-12pm due to the direction the rack faced. My boards are in great condition for their age and use. It can be done, it just has to be done correctly.

 

lmao, raccoons never nibbled my boards either with my configuration.

 

So, seems like a lot of you don't worry too much about the elements 'cept for causing board jaundice . . . do y'all rinse the salt water off your boards before you stash 'em? Prevents fin screw rust-i-tis -- but what else is it good for?

 

I prefer to store my board inside, on the wall. In two pieces.

 

I mean far off the road as in my nearest neighbor is well over 5 miles away and we are about 2 miles off a back road that only three people live on. That's a big difference

 

so heat isnt a problem with regular boards? i have always thought it was...

 

Directly in the sun is a problem for all boards made with all materials, no exception.
Listen not to those who tell you otherwise. Extreme cold also.
Everything expands and contracts, including steel. Layers separate on temperature changes. It is simple physics.
Boards are best stored inside year round.
