Already changed from yesterday.... I find myself getting overly excited, then I have to bring myself back to reality
Ain't no such thing as long range forecasting New Jerseyian..by long range I mean anything past 24 hours..man I thought youz guyz knew this already
Our PNW forecasts have been changing daily, have you guys been getting the same routine? Maybe Springtime is upon us. Yesterday, we had a pretty big rainstorm overnight and I figured the surf would be all lumpy and soupy. I got bored later in the afternoon and decided to check the surf...imagine my surprise to rock up to clean glassy shoulder high surf. Fvck the forecasts, I'm going surfing
true. that's Pacific forecasting. those cats out West can manage their lives more effectively. you have to live by the seat of your pantalones around these parts to get in the water every good swell. i'd say we can accurately predict within 48 hrs for most good swell events.
I'd say 48 hours for long period "cane" swells..but mid to short period windswells are just unpredictable outside of the 24 hour window.. Fortunately I have a boss who used to surf and is cool with me bailing out of work once or more a week..happier employees are better workers..hey I'll buy into that ideology..
i dunno about that. i think predicting waves from a big old frontal system are easier to predict than tropical swells. marine models now give you predicted sea heights and swell intervals. combine a NOAA marine forecast and a swellinfo forecast and you have a pretty good idea within a couple days. wait a second, that was a way too surf-related post. can we talk about huffing gasoline or something instead?
