Gonna have transportation? Google earth doesn't show much of a beach there and it's protected by a lot of islands.

Don't see a surf forecast / report on Swellinfo or Surfline for there, might have a spot or two, someone from that area would know better, don't know that they'll tell you the truth though lol, if no luck may just need to drive North or South to get something.

Punta Chocha. The rest is up to you. The forum canceled the English name.

The Fajardo side (East) of the island is rather devoid of surf able locations. Some of the outer islands (Icacos) have breaks but a boat is required. That side, despite facing the trade winds head on, is recognized as a place to dive, snorkel, boating etc. Surfing not so much. As a kid, we went there often to fish, snorkel etc. Now, my info is dated, I left PR for the USA in 1969, at age 18 for college--maybe other sites have been "discovered" since.
There is one location known as La Pared, which is a bit east of Luquillo beach. Go to surf line--it has a cam, last I looked.
Good luck, enjoy El Conquistador hotel, if you can.

Out of curiosity, where did you live on the Island... San Juan area or near Roosevelt Roads? My gremaso days of surfing were spent at Sheraton, Presbyterian, Pine Grove and La Pared, Winter/Spring of '67, while living outside of San Juan in the countryside. During summer of '67 we moved to San German, where Jobos was my continuation of gremaso status... graduated to a rider on Labor Day of '67 at Maria's Beach.

La Selva is the place to go if you are around Fajardo and have transportation and directions, hiking shoes of some sort (flip flops won't cut it) and a bottle of water.

Lived in Santa Maria, Rio Piedras, bedroom community to San Juan...1951-1969.
Where is La Selva...that is a new name for me.
Spent lots of time surfing Pine Grove, Sheraton, rarely Caballo (boat required), Aviones,La Ocho, La Cinco. La Dos Y Media. And lots of weeks and week ends at MArias before any of the trashy joints popped up.

I know right about where you lived -- some friends lived there, too. I and 3 others paddled out to Caballo, on Easter Weekend 1969 as I recall, as it looked to be a mere 8-10 ft. Ended up being the largest surf I have ever ridden and been out in. That session is a storytelling one for sure. Thanks to a couple of men that retrieved us in a rounded hull boat! Where did you attend school? We might have some common friends from that era.

La Selva is east of Luquillo... the parking spot isn't far from the main highway... then a long walk through the cow pastures. I surfed in the late '80s and sometime in the 1990s, but not since as it is a long drive from the west side during my January migrations.

Padins!! Now there is a name I have not heard in 45 years!!
I am sure we have mutual friends from Robinsons. A few very attractive female surfers went there; they were also very nice persons to boot.

Padin's closed down about 10 or 15 yrs ago :(

Certainly you knew Candy Chase! We were in the same grade and many classes. You no doubt knew some of my classmates... Richard Bloomquist, Pinard, etc. Not sure if you got to know the Hardy girls -- they were at IAU Campus 67/68 and then Commonwealth 68/69, and lived in the curved "hurricane apt buildings."

Yes, I knew her and her sister. I also knew Rick. Many of his friends were mine as well to include Machuca. We used to hit Rincon with Jim Evans, who was one of my better friends there. I did not know the Hardy sisters, but Tommy Hardy was also a friend from Pine Grove--his dad was an Eastern Airline pilot and they lived at Pine Grove, the round buildings.

All familiar names! Machuca was a real character and so far ahead of everyone else out in the surf zone.

Yes, he still lives, although with one of the neurological diseases. He used to borrow our boards (he was too poor to afford one) at Pine Grove. Finally, the Hobie surf shop on Isla Verde provided him with boards.

I don't have any experience surfing in Puerto Rico, as I tend to avoid third world countries like Providence, RI.

However, I do have much experience dealing with Puerto Ricans in New Jersey - a sixth world country.
