Anyone here ever lose some flesh to a planer? Or get catalyst in the pudhole? You can let me know so I don't feel alone in my stupidity. Today, for the first time, I managed to get resin in my eye. I was trying to bang out a big-ding hotcoat and a little glob flicked off the f*cking brush and went right into my eye. I realized immediately ,and my first dumb thought was, 'how long is this gonna take to burn'? Well about a second later, I was squinting and running upstairs. My second dumb thought was, 'I have to find the Material Safety Data Sheet for resin.' Googling through one eye, I finally found one, and realizing that I should have already been flushing my eye with water, I run to the bathroom. Many shot-glass flushes later (It's sad that I actually I have a preferred shot glass for this), it was still blurry and burning. So I ran to my faucet, which fortunately has one of those detachable heads. With my head in the sink I blasted my eye for a good 15 minutes. The water pressure actually started hurting more than the resin burn, but I wanted that sh*t out of my eye. Now, about six hours and beers later, the burn is pretty much gone, but it still feels like I've got something stickin' in my eye. And next time wear eye protection...goggles etc. I know...easy to post event quarterback, but you only get one set, man.
I read that while post in suspense wondering how it was going to turn out....sounds rough. Than I read that last line and saw the video and started cracking up. No offense. Songs going to be stuck in my head from like a week now
Damn Slashy, hope you're aight. How's it holding up today? Props for the appropriate video. Man, that's a sharty feeling...never got resin in the eye, but taken direct hits w/ bleach and tar, and I reckon it really made me nervous. And, amigo, I have to say, Safety First, next time.
Never got resin in my eye. Once without thinking wiped my chin and lip with the back of my hand after mixing up a batch of resin. I did not realize that there was mec peroxide catylist on the glove I was wearing. It only affected where it contacted my lower lip. Instant chemical burn blisters. Judging by how bad it instantly blistered my lip its safe to say you'd be blinded if you ever had that get in direct contact with your eye.
I wear these... http://www.homedepot.com/p/3M-Tekk-...lf-Frame-Safety-Glasses-92232-80025/202551329 I have a tinted pair for working outside, too. It's all you really need. I always wear them glassing and when routing fin box holes... not planing, although I should.
got some poly resin in my eye last year while glassing a board. just a tiny speck while pulling the squeegee over the rail a bit too agressively just as I finished the board. I had taken by safety goggles off because they were fogging while using a respirator. noticed that my eyelid was sticking a bit when i closed/opened my eye. Flushed the eye with water for several minutes.... The sticking sensation lasted for a couple hours, then went away. Went out and bought the respirator/eyeshield combo
nice...after so long & thanks for all the shoes, and the decline my attention to epitaph/fat records socal punk days kind of, well, declined...have to check 'em out again
Once I had to go to an eye doctor so he could peel back my eyelid and remove a jellyfish tentacle the day after I got hit with it. My eye was all puffed up, I had tried flushing, and finally gave up and wet to the doc. 10 minutes later I was fine.
Got some styrene in my eye about 5 years ago when fixing some stress cracks in a board...the stinging was unbelievable. Washed it out for about 20 minutes...can't believe I'm not blind.
