Yeah Man! it's that typical 38 to 40ish pos that can't get out of his own way . That fat a$$ with the little Ba$$turds he 's got for kids screaming endlessly at a beach they shouldn't be at while pops and his old guys rule shirt tries to tell those little ba$$turds how awesome he was when he was younger and how he owned the break when in reality he's always been that fat a$$ pos he's always been.

Okay and thank you, I'm done.

Sounds to me as if you will be buying an ample supply of those t-shirts to wear when you get to 40.
    The louder they scream........

phrases like 'Old guys rule' and 'tricks are for kids' are to make older people feel better about their declining skills.

not sure what that saying even means but older doesnt really rule anything in atheletic area, theres no substitute for youth not saying you still cant do the said sport when your get older but ruling it is a bit different..older gives you more experience in different situations which is priceless but all things equal youth = more flexibility, strength, endurance which usually = ability

True overall, but, as for your last sentence, that depends on how a person defines "ability".

Most of the punks who make jokes about old dudes in the water will be fat, out of shape and not even surfing by the time they're 45 or 50. I guarantee it. Guarantee it. Because I saw it happen.

Anybody still surfing at 45, 50, 60 or older absolutely gets more credit than anyone ripping at 25. Because the former is much, much harder than the latter. Anyone still surfing at that age has clearly made hard, hard choices in order to keep surfing - like turning down promotions, rejecting jobs that might pay more inland and spending countless hours in the gym or physical therapy. That's a lot harder than tearing it up when you're 25.

    That's why old guys rule.

But yeah, 40 is probably too young for an old guys rule shirt. Unless his buds gave it to him as a joke for his 40th birthday.

Tell my buddy Scott that he can't surf anymore because he's old. He'll punch you in the face, out bench you, paddle circles around you, drink more beer than you, and drop in on bombs all day. Pushing 70 and still surfs crapsonville daily and travels to Puerto Rico to surf tres palmas a couple times a year when its big. That particular old guy is old and does rule.

Measuring your surfing self against others... whether it be by age, ability, style, or any other standard... is a recipe for a life of frustration and disappointment.

There is an old guy down here named Chummer. He is in his 70s. I saw him walking down the path with an SUP under his arm. I said , "What's up, now you're SUPing? Where's your paddle?" He just laughed at me and said no way, he doesn't "broom board", he just needed a bit more volume now that he's over 70, and he had to kind of figure out how to surf again. It was overhead and peeling, and I watched him paddle out and catch a 100 yard left. When I was a kid, I'd see him out at Reef Road in his 50s, in DOH plus surf, all relaxed, joking around during clean up sets. His attitude is always very very positive. He told me he lost alot of friends who surfed that were over 50 and never saw 60 due to drugs, car wrecks, cancer. He does tai chi, swims, unicycles, and lives a clean healthy life. Inspirational.

Kelly Slater is 43.....just think that needs to be reiterated as much as possible.

He is a young man, in the prime of his life. And I think he is a good surfer, ain't he?? Does that mean that surfing is an easy "sport"?

I see plenty of old fat guys rip.weight really has no effect whatsoever on your surfing.its actually better to be fat because u float like a buoy.im not an old fat guy but im on my way unfortuantly.

yea 40 years old aint that old.when ur in ur late 50s then it would be cool.

for the old folks lol,I had a bumper sticker many cars ago that read "if you remember the 60s you probably weren't there"
