In historical context, Obama is probably somewhere to the right of Nixon. It's pretty crazy how far to the right American politics have drifted.

Politics is somewhat Newtonian. You had the conservatism of the roaring 20s followed by the liberal new deal era then back and forth since then. You are right about Nixon. He was only 'conservative' on foreign policy.

Your statement proves the point I have been making--poiitics is nothing more than opinion and bias--there are NO facts, just bias. Most recognize Obama for being far left--I do. Therefore, having "intellectual" discussions in politics is unachievable, in any forum. And that is okay-- people vote with their hearts not with their brains.

On another note, we are slated for some swell on Friday--and it won't be -5*F at long last!! Time to suit up!!

Even in foreign policy, it's hard to imagine a modern Republican doing something similar to his China visit.

There are plenty of facts in politics. Just because the right sees a black man barking orders, does not actually make him a pure lefty. Sorry man, this is a fact: http://www.motherjones.com/environm...olt-against-obamas-proposed-drilling-atlantic
No real left winger would be ok with this. Obama continuously proves that he is more centric. Even the healthcare reform was in the center. If he were a true democrat, it would have been real universal healthcare for all. Instead, we got the bastardized version catering to the right, which only seems to benefit the poor and the insurance companies.

My point is that facts are twisted to bias. We each have our own. Not all whites see Obama as a lefty, although I do, but based on my perception of his politics compared to mine. The article you posted is a bias in itself.

His proposal was fact, even if the article had bias the way it was written.

That, my good man, I agree with.
Politics is a strange domain; it is governed by subjectivity. You and I were both trained in the world of science, which attempts, but often fails to remain objective. Facts in politics are way different than measurable facts in science. Science can introduce bias as well, but usually (not always), good editors will eliminate them from their publications. In the world of medicine, authors choose which journal to submit their work to based on strength of the editorial process, usually because the peer review subjected in stronger journals tends to authenticates their work to higher degree of strength. Almost like having a strong "p" value. This is absent in political discourse.

And, as an edit, everything I just wrote above??....opinion, which is bias.

remember the big gun scare when obama got elected, jesus, both times? People buying AR-15's, handguns, and ammo at like four times their value? Funny part is he never did the first thing about guns, I think he even let a clinton era gun bill or two expire.

that's actually not true. Look into Operation Choke point as but one example. There are plenty of others where Obama tried to get Congress to re-new the assault weapons ban and other gun control measures.

Again, you can cherry pick quotes all you want to support your agenda.
You can't lump all of the founding fathers together as Deists, as many were actual Christians (mostly Protestants to be exact).
Jefferson himself, the "go-to" Deist that people quote when trying to claim your position, has many conflicting quotes and speeches about God and Jesus.
Even if he didn't believe Jesus to be "divine", he strongly believed in his teachings (as you know Jefferson even created his own version of the Bible from the New Testament, so we he well versed in the teachings of Jesus).
So yes our founding fathers were mix of Christians and Deists.
You can't rewrite history to say that Christianity had nothing to do with the founding of this country. Nor are conservatives wrong when they state this. You can hurl insults all you want though as they may be the only way to support your defense of a shallow position (that and cherry picking more quotes from the internet)
And for the record I don't reach Christian books nor do I even go to church.

Please, inform me what I am cherry picking. That is a clear quote from one of the founding fathers written in an official goverment document.

Why don't you cherry pick some quotes to support your agenda?

Thomas Jefferson was not anywhere near a Christian, that is well documented. Him believing Jesus wasn't divine is exactly what makes him NOT a Christian. You can't be a Christian and not believe that Jesus christ was the savior and son of God.

I never said ALL of the delegates who signed the declaration were Diests. That's obviously not true. But the leaders who had the most influence were almost certainly not Christian.

This country was founded for religious freedom. If they based our goverment off Christianity, that would have went against everything they stood for.

You clearly want to believe (for some reason) that this country was founded on Christianity, but it's just not true.

And who steps in nearly every time to scuttle the enforcement of immigration laws? GOP-aligned big business, my friend. You think the feds take their queue from groups like La Raza or from the US Chamber of Commerce, which pretty much puts the kebash on things like E-verify every time they come up? When it comes to the lack of enforcement of immigration laws the right and the left are in it together - but it's really the right that's pulling the levers of power.
