I do believe it is a shining city on a hill. I love free thought, including liberal thought, science, surfing and social and private freedoms. But I believe just as strongly that the government has no place touching social issues and this government has for the last 6 years been using all of those issues to divide us into camps and then attempting to pander to each camp separately to garner votes. The idea of Hillary running and attempting to use the "sexism" outcry just as Obama supporters use the "racist" rallying call gets me sick. There are a lot of signs that it isn't going to work this time around. Americans are just tired of hearing it and like the boy who cried wolf have grown deaf to the empty accusations.

I agree. But I do "like" Palin--I find her funny, entertaining, but I would not vote for her. Unfortunately, there are no candidates I would cast my vote for in either party. It is often said "vote for the lesser evil" then. But if so, isn't ones still voting for evil??/ Naw. Not me. I would have to be very bored, a very flat day, not so much as a wrinkle on the ocean, and friends pushing me to go vote with an AR-15 snugged in behind my ear. Problem is, given the nature of the news today, nobody can get true, unbiased "facts". Every newspaper has its bias, even in the columns that are non-editorials.
