Under layers for cold water wetsuit?

Long sleeve rashguards. I have a 0.5 mm so it does give a little extra warmth.

thin socks are good for booties (bodyboarders wear thick 5mm ones with no boots)

idk about legs? you wouldnt really need anything on your lower body (besides feet), or head for that matter.

 

Oh, Caroline, I'm sick of wetsuiites aren't you? Soon enough we'll be shedding some layers of that thick rubber anyways.

But, I do agree with hawkheart. I normally wear a long sleeve rash guard under mine as well.

The bikinis can't come soon enough, in my humble opinion.

 

I have one of those insulating inner suites that is like the lava core socks. Tried it once. Just too much material, made it that much harder to paddle. If you have the cash, buy a Quiksilver Cypher heated vest or Thermalution heated shirt. My $.02

 

A full Lycra suit. You can find them in "Diving Stores". They do help to wick the water away from your skin but they need to be tight not loose. They will and a little extra weight, but I agree- let's put these things away already and try it next year.

 

some of us wear stuff under our suit; some of us don't. don't know which is warmer
but i think a pair of thin socks helps with bootie/foot warmth.

 

I've been surfing all this winter (water temps in the mid-upper 30s) in an xcel 4/3 with lightweight merino wool underwear amd socks. makes the xcel 4/3 as warm as the xcel 5/4s that I've in the past but seems a lot lighter/drier/more flexible.

 

Good ole pair of tube socks and .5mm long sleeve. I will have to try the wool underwear!!!

 

I wear a long sleeve rash guard and under armor shorts under mine. I have a Hyper flex 6/5/4 and although warm as hell the fleece lining makes it almost impossible to get off without wearing them. Not something you want to get stuck in when your trying to change in a parking lot in 15 degree temps.

 

Oh yeah! completely forgot about them despite seeing them around. Never thought about wearing them under your suit tho, good thinking.

I know a dude who rocks a 3/2 in jerz through the winter..he uses merino wool..
I wouldn't go that route but hey it works..

 

i recently punched myself in the cheek when pulling on the forearm part of the suite.

 

I wear some under armor pants- and I cant really say if it adds any warmth but I only wear it to make getting the suit off easier. Don't have to wear a towel while i pull the suit down either, no fighting to keep the towel up in the cold with your wetsuite around your ankles getting all nasty on the ground.

The socks I haven't tried but I'm using Patagonia R4 booties with the merino wool and they come off easy and are very warm.

 

...hook up a changing mat. I keep a lightweight door mat to stand on when changing...helps with keeping the suit from getting all gnarled up while changing.

 

Not bad- I actually use a large trash bag. Ill go down to my waist in the suit- then I pull off one bootie at a time and step into the bag with out my feet hitting the sand/parking lot. Then I pull off the rest of the suit and its ready to go into the truck lol. I use the same bag until it starts to rip, then it gets used for garbage.

 

Good one...I used to stand inside a rubbermade box but it took up to much room.

 

Mookie - Rash guard helps get the hyperflex off that well? My 6/5/4 voodoo has the fleece lining which is amazingly warm but taking it off is beyond a struggle.

Does the rash guard add much warmth?? The suit (suite) is so toasty as it is I couldnt imagine being any warmer

I duct tape a chain of the breakable hand warmers and wear them like a bandoleer.
