in most jurisdictions the answer is no. They can only legal use deadly force if they believe their lives are in immediate danger (that's the rub though because in most instances they only have to say that and they can get off).

I have to agree with MIS on this one. My area has a big issue with police departments right now. Even in Mt P, the cops seem to want to work outside the law. One of my closest friends is in a nasty custody battle right now. He basically found out his wife not only cheated on him, but got preggo with the bf's baby, then secretly aborted the baby. He gave her a chance to admit her mistake, so they could work out the next steps. When ***** continued to lie, he basically had his family take the kid to a safe location nearby, then laid down the law with his wife in the kindest way possible. Basically, he said he just wanted full custody, and she could visit the kid and have weekends all the time. She lied again and said she would sign all the papers for this, but instead she shopped area police departments until she could find officers to believe her lies and sob story (she was now lying and saying her husband abused her and the kid, which is silly as my friend is probably the nicest dude on the planet). What happened next? Cops jumped the gun and tried to arrest the dude at work for kidnapping and abuse. He had to hide in a hotel until his lawyer threatened the whole police force with a massive lawsuit. Just another example of Chas area cops jumping the gun and thinking they have the authority to do whatever they want.

BTW, downtown cops are also known for setting up fake taxis to bust drunk people trying to take the safe option to get home. The bust the poor kids for public intox. Add that to all the arrests for public urination in areas where there are zero public toilettes, and you can see that something needs to be fixed.

AC has 250 cabs but 251 mercs. the last one being the sole posession of ACPD.

Pretty disgusting. If someone is cabbing it home, they are not going to be killing someone on the roadway. These people should not be arrested.

How is that not entrapment? I have no doubt the cops are doing it, but I would like to thing that a lawyer worth his salt would be able to get that thrown out pretty quick. Then again, I aint a lawyer, so what the hell do I know

Like nynj said, it isn't entrapment. They aren't pushing the people to commit a crime. The crime is public intox, which has already been committed. They are just catching the so called criminals using seedy methods.

Had a buddy get intoxicated while he was clubbing. He chose to do the right thing and walk home, about a 2-3 mile walk.

Cop started an inquiry when he came up on him walking down his street (just a few houses away from making it home) at around 3 am. Buddy stated that he was walking home from clubbing instead of driving. Also stated that he was a Federal LEO.

Cop was just about to let him go, when the cop's Supervisor showed up. The boss decided to be a d!ck and arrest him for Public Intox. Buddy is on what cops refer to as "The Rubber Gun Squad", which is basically having your badge and gun temporarily taken away and you are put on "administrative duties" which amount to working in the garage.

Unfortunately, cop stereotypes are truer than a lot of civilians might know. In places where cops don't have a lot of activity to chase the "bad guys", they often get bored and start cannibalizing their own. It's really pathetic. Most of them just have this really crappy innate wiring that makes them want to bust somebody...anybody.
