that guy is a legend at Puerto,as much as coco nogales or the ramierez bros.don't recall his name, just know he rides 20 footers on a longboard with a nacho libre mask or whatever its called. i have a catch surf odyssey board.its awesome.paddles like a longboard, rides like a quad, its actually a quad so lol.having fun is what its all aboot.im just scared the thing is going to break on me one day, them sheits aint cheap, and I feel the leash plug can be pulled out at any time, but still a great board.never been on a wavestorm
I have a few boards similar to that. Almost bought one of those on craigslist for $100. I'm kind of a foamieholic, i guess..
I have been riding a 9' soft top for four years. You can catch anything on it, and it out paddles other boards. It doesn't hurt if it hits you too. That being said, the guys talked me into graduating to epoxy. It was an easy sell since i have been thinking about it since November. I am having one made and excited to try it out when it's ready. Probably will use the soft top occasionally for old times sake. I think the epoxy board will turn better. It might dig into the wave better too.
Chimaera came in today can't wait til Tomm now... View attachment 15238 . Thickness compared to reg 42 in bodyboard View attachment 15239
I would love to get one. I usually surf the same area as Misfit, and after the collisions of the last two summers, I'm thinking it's a necessity. Plus, I usually take the subway to surf ... I've definitely gotten a few dings swinging my board around in the midst of the huddled masses. With a foam board though, I wouldn't worry about dings. And you can just run people over with those, right? And when the surf school is pushing people into waves they'd never catch, right at the peak, you can drop in, cause it's a foamie, right?
http://intsoftboards.com/ Soft foamie boards with fiberglass bottoms. In other words, a foamieholics dreams. Now, I wouldn't pick this exact color scheme, but still these things are a great idea.
I agree I looked at them I hope they do well I find they tend to shape on the thinner side on some models though.. For me anyway...
Got a 7'0 odysea log for free from buddy who did a work event with them - thing paddles so well - who gives a damn when its small gotta have fun some how. Super fun to sit infront of a jetty with no worries about your stick or to drop in on your buddies and run them off the wave. Been meaning to try and get it out on a head plus day for sheits and giggles
I personally cant stand the feel of any soft boards I've ever ridden...for some reason they all feel slow and bogged-down to me. But i see them being ridden well in good surf pretty often...in fact more often than ever it seems. From just a few weeks ago:
When I first learned to surf, a "certain instructor who shall remain nameless" tried to talk me into buying a custom 10" foot board (from her christian buddy) to ride the ankle high waves. She said I would never learn otherwise. I didn't take the bait. Never bought a foamy, but if I were striving to ride the ankle high stuff, I'd get a used foamy before dropping $900 on a customized 9 or10 footer.
