I used to surf, guys, so yeah, I'm not impressed.

Surfing is easier than sponging when it comes to performance. Yes, it is. That's why so many boogers suck. Like Shark Hunter is still trying after all of these years. Now he been relegated to making winter-terrorism videos.

I suck now at everything, though. Turning 40 was the downfall. Man, I was ripping a few years ago. I don't even wack-at-it good anymore.

Back to surfing, that back-tail leverage stuff is so easy.

Balance isn't something that has ever troubled me. And Kelly couldn't beat Waffen SS's niece on a balance beem or beam, never mind the Chinese gymnastic team.

So put that in perspective - a 12-year-old Chinese girl is better than John John and Gary Kong Elkerton if surfing was just aboot balance.

Kelly's not the greatest because of his "unique" balancing skills...

Nahh, he's the greatest because he knows when and where to do the right thing. It's all wave knowledge. A level most will never comprehend. There's no difference between him and Mike Stewart.

Yeah, popping-up to your feet takes a bit of practice, maybe. Took me three sessions to ride down-the-line. Another two to start doing some Captain America turns.

But I was already dialed-in to wave knowledge and all that from my years of boogie-boarding Zuma and Oxnard. Yeah, I used to ride white water in friggin Oxnard/Hueneme. How cool is that? Oxnard !!

Does sponging look weak at times? Yes, most definitely. But I'm more interested in the feel, not the appearance. So, yes, sponging is where it is at.

90% of the time the waves on the right coast aren't even worth standing for. My one board handles every condition NJ throws at me.

I don't need a log for knee high.

I don't need a fish for waist

I don't need my standard shortboard

I don't need a step-up or something longer with a pintail for bigger steeper bowls.....

Plus, I can hold an edge without a fin, two or five.

No wonder you like the new breaks in Cedars! Its all good Riles. Im Italian and Italians can't surf good. Good thing Im only half Italian.

My other half is filled with Nautical DNA so that makes me half a good surfer.

Read an article months ago from a mag that was actually well done. Talked about how pretty much all surfers started on a morey mach boogie board with orange bottom. So accurate. I had pictures of paul roach and andre botha all over my walls growing up.
