Ok having grown up with surfers and watching all my life I have come across something I haven't seen before....lately I have been seeing people paddling out with their legs up... Ie flat on board til knee area then a straight v with feet in the air ....am I missing something here ? Is this the new style or are these visitors from shark prone waters where this is common?

Less drag. I do this on my short fish all the time.

It shifts your weight forward and lets you paddle on a flatter plane on boards with more volume forward.

This is great point. You do get a better plane on the board with the feet up.
