Wayne, you gave rcarter a challenge to prove his "90% Theory".

If he's correct, will you promise to go away forever?

Having grown up in an evangelical familly I have a strong distaste for proselytizing. Anything beyond living by example and hoping that someone in need would see the peace in you and change themselves has always bothered me. My mom once brought me to a church where I had to kiss a doll (baby Jesus) in a long line of people. Even as a kid I thought God has got to be looking down on this and thinking WTF? Sorry Wayne I don't like it.

Well it's not like we don't actually know who wayne is. He's a real guy with a real for profit church and he's got some real good head issues. It must be the tiny fibers and specs in his brain that make him so frigged in the head.

Wayne's beiefs are faith based so it is unreasonable to demand that he communicate them via intellectual debate.

He also has freedom of speech so even if there's a 'better' way to communicate his ideas, the way he's using can't be seen as wrong.

Also there seems to be an assumption that Wayne should care about the poll, when it isn't apparent the he does or should.

 

Well, three people voted that his method is ok. I don't agree with his doctrine but can't argue with his faith... it's more of a relationship thing than a philosophical enterprise. Faith is self proving. The poll implies that the majority rules but that has never been the case, and wayne's beliefs probably do not depend upon it.

Furthermore both you and Wayne are mistaken in thinking that a poll tells you who agrees with him and who doesn't. The polls are anonymous and only the comments reveal who thinks what.

Even though I agree with much of what you wrote on the other thread regarding evolution etc you are still a boor of the first order and ought to learn some manners.

It's 'Raglan' by the way, after Lord Raglan, who although a gentleman was clearly a numbskull when it came to military strategy.

 

I voted for Wayne.

My logic:

To have a healthy relationship with the great ball of energy known to some as God is fine, whatever. Silly? To some, self included, but whatever. Not a big deal. But to have crutch/cult-like/illogic following is a different set of circumstances. The purpose of the belief system becomes backwards, not to enlighten but to indoctrinate. So is there a "right" way of spreading cult logic? Can there be a "preferred method" for seeking to indoctrinate like a predatory infection. It seems like the worse the method for spreading the indoctrination, the more appropriate it is to the nature of the extreme belief system. So in voting for Wayne, I am still being critical of the method....

I don't disagree with Mr Wayne's message. I do disagree with his method, and that's what the poll is about.

Mr Roy has thought behind his position, but I disagree with the "freedom of speech" (FOS) concept. FOS doesn't mean you can say whatever you want, any time, any place, without consequences.

Beware of those who go over the top in the name of their religion, thinking they will elevate their status in the hereafter. I could cite numerous examples, but a common one: You're driving on a superhighway, 5 lanes wide. In the fast (left) lane is a car going 10 mph BELOW the speed limit. They could move over, and let others pass, but NOOOO. They're earning pernts with God for making everyone else behave and drive slowly. "Oh God! Aren't you SOOO proud of me?" Meanwhile, all sorts of grief has been inflicted on those who were late for life events that day.

My compromise:

Wayne is appointed SI Chaplain. A clever, thoughtful, maybe even funny, sticky is placed at the top of the forum. If your personal sh** hits the fan, and you need someone to talk to, etc... Wayne can do his thing, help folks, and leave the rest of us out of it. Get out of the fast lane, Mr Wayne, so we can get to work on time.

 

I voted that Wayno's methods are wrong. He should f off with trying to indoctrinate Swellinfo members, join the Jehovah's Witnesses and go out ringing doorbells in his spare time if he wants to proselytize. And he should get a vasectomy.
