Hey Marc. Head to the local surf shops in Newport and Narragansett and you get all of the info you need.
What kind of twink goes to Ruggles? I feel like a criminal defense lawyer after watching that video. Smile for the camera!
Not sure if you took that as a dis or not. I wasn't hating on it, i'd love to surf it for sure. I'm just looking at that video and it looks like an easy drop in and lots of open face, pretty crumbly with the occasional little barrel. Might be deceiving on video, but looks like a lot of fun and not so scary at that size compared to other more hollow throwing waves at the same size. I remember Hurricane Bill down here and it was HUGE and furious!
I got love for you too bro, one of these days i'm going to find my way up the coast and i'll be looking you, Yankee, Bill, and Jawn up to have one big bro down. We'll capture and torture SharkC*nter and pay homage to the Shredmachine.
on the topic of that video, does anyone have any advice of what to look for when carving & doing a cutback...i've done some, but as i'm just progressing into this it has really been more by trial & error and reminding myself, "oh, yeah, try that" i can't remember d1k when i finish a wave so it's difficult to critique myself...all i can think is that i notice a section coming up so i think to go back to the power/break it has worked out, but it isn't a go to thing yet...maybe the waves i've been working on have just sucked...it has been a kinda $hitty 5 months up here...very inconsistent and few and far between good days thanks!
Board choice is key for waves your riding. Depending on the size of the wave or shoulder, will dictate how far you can draw your turn. Remember, the body will follow the head. Hope this helps.
my head is hurting gayest thread ever written. just drive around and figure it out. jesus its the smallest state in the union. jersey will be going off though. nub tv will have a video up of epic barrels in jersey. why would someone want to meet up with you? you paying money.if you pay me 100 bucks ill show you a few beach breaks.
thanks for the feedback everyone. i wouldnt say im looking for a guide, surfing is as much a social thing for me as well as a hobby. im taking leave to visit my sister in north kingstown, so i figured i would see who else is out here. after all, i find surfing a little more fun when you have people to talk to.
i have a 7'6" that definitely doesn't take to turns as easily, but is great to bottom turn back up to the lip...recently got a 6'4" that didn't give me much trouble stepping down to...paddle in was a bit of an adjustment though. the shorter is what get me started on an overhead day, and i remembered, oh yeah, try that and it went smoothly...thing is i don't quite know consciously what it is you look for in a wave to cut back...i kinda just did it...otherwise i'm always just looking down the line and going up and down the wave trying to hit the fast/steeper spots to hit top to bottom and bottom to top
