Heard about a situation with one of the newer surfboard shops in my local that really got me pissed off. Not sure if this is a common story with how shops can treat shapers but without dropping names or locations here's the cliff notes on friday I hear a shaper had severed ties with one of the local shops, no real reason given. I'm pretty friendly with the shaper so I get intouch to see what's up. He goes on to tell me that the shop sold all but one of his boards that he supplied them with.... and almost a year later the shop has refused to pay him from the sales and now won't even take the guys phone calls. With everyone so passionate about the hand crafted shaped boards, I feel like the shop really should pay for this infraction. Other than the shaper taking some legal action, there should be some backlash from the surf community of this. Its not up to me to go collect the cash... but I feel like spreading this story is almost mandatory.
k im lost..so shaper makes boards for shop///for free? for display only? for rental? or shop asks shaper to make boards to sell? either way some front end discussion, paper contract on whats being done would help.. simple hey ill make u 10 boards if u sell them gimme 70% of the sale etc.. sign date notarize it
He shaped the boards to be sold by the shop. He's an eastcoast shaper who over the past 5 years has taken on enough new business to go full time into surfboard production. He contacted the shop about carrying his boards and they agreed to pay him for each one upon sale. The shop didn't even tell him they were sold. I actually bumped into some guy riding his board and I took a pic and sent it to him just for ****s and giggles. that's how he found out that any of them even sold.
verbal agreement im guessing? well shaper should walk into shop and ask shop owner..hey sold any of the boards yet? at this point their reply can either be no,,shaper says-well then where are they?.. or two yes here is your part of the money
Severed ties and no real reason given? Sounds like there was a huge reason! You saw what happened to the shop on the boardwalk... LOL
Im holding back the names because the shaper is not sure how this could hurt him if he takes to social media. And I don't blame him, we all know how things and information can be manipulated on line.
Fitz, did you literally "bumped into him?" Hey, you should repost the "Fitz Torpedo" for the benefit of the newer guys. Might scare some of the younger types. So, Zero, what do you know aboot 7th St's unfortunate incident?
No I did not literally collide with this guy. I was walking one way and he was walking the other way. as we passed eachother I saw the board and asked to get a picture of it. as far as reposting the Fitzpedo vid... just google Lawrence Taylor breaks Joe Theisman's leg.
Where were you the other night, Zero? And no Sgt Schultz responses either. Yeah, I know you're clever like Col Hogan. Col Hogan was murdered because of vajayjay.
