Move to CA... Reasons not to?

I surfed alone Sunday & Monday. well not alone. Two dolphins and a seal were crowding my peak...

I didn't have to pay for parking, or sit in traffic. I had in-n-out for lunch. and I'm heading to Saint Archer for a beer after work today.

 

...but he water south of the boarder smells like **** because raw sewage drains right into the ocean from pipes in the cliffs. Don't know how I never got hepatitis there.

 

yeah, I didn't mention that on purpose. But ya gotta admit, the smell of Mexican raw sewage pouring out into the lineup only a few KM away, mixed with the odor of burning Mexican trash, and maybe the scent of the local fish taco truck makes for some fantastic sessions.

WB, ever surf the Pemex jetty? Man, do I have some stories about that place. You can always surf it alone...but do you really want to?

no, but I've surfed just about every other spot from Rosarito to Ensenada...good waves, but all disgusting.

 

Just go. If you're thinking about it, go. I don't know of any CA surfers who are sitting around contemplating moving to the EC because it's crowded, expensive, whatever.

There are plenty of non-surfers who move away for those reasons, I'm sure, but I've never talked to one guy who was like "brah, that was a killer sesh, but my mortgage is killing me, so I'm dreaming of rocking a desk job in Maryland and driving for an hour to go chop hopping in onshore ankle biters. Dude, I can't wait to own a little house in the suburbs and only get good surf when I take a couple of trips to PR every year!"

 

I moved to CA from the EC decades ago. Mostly because of the ridiculous surf consistency, but almost as much because my aunt already lived 5 min from the beach there and offered me a room until I got established...pretty much an "easy" button.
