    Hello,

I recently have discovered that I have a VERY pronounced reaction to my Rip Curl Flash Bomb e4 wetsuit. Wondering if anyone else has found a solution to this and particularly wondering if the new PATAGONIA YULEX has solved the problem for anyone. Here is some background info on what's going on if anyone cares to read:

In the past I have owned rip curl, o'neill, and excel and have never had a reaction like this. I have had milder reactions and just dealt with it but this is so prounounced that I am really starting to have a hard time.

I have tried washing it with no avail. I did some googling and it turns out that many people are allergic to compounds called rubber accelerators that are used in the neoprene manufacturing process and people are also allergic to the adhesives/glue. I finally went to my allergist and we are in the process of patch testing various chemicals and I am getting samples from different wetsuit manufacturers as well to patch on my skin to see if there is a reaction.

The reaction is awful. The skin raises up and gets extremely raw and itchy for several days after I wear my suit. Mostly on my lower body and legs but also slightly on my armpits and opposite side of my elbow. This is very likely due to the fact that these are areas of the wetsuit that carry the most water and water seems to be medium that the chemicals travel through to my skin. People with similar experiences have tried using a base layer and it does not help for this very reason. Water transmits the checmicals causing the reaction.

I am definitely not the only person experiencing this and am wondering if the new Patagonia Yulex wetsuits have solved the problem for people. They are obviously very new on the market but have been around long enough that hopefully some people here can give feedback on.

    Thanks for your help!!

Sounds terrible. Have you tried wearing a rash guard and Lycra pants under your wetsuite? Maybe the barrier will help.

I have similar issues but not as bad (I wear an Xcel). I get little red raised bumps and they are always localized to my upper chest and pits. It usually goes away within a few hours after a sesh. Rash guard doesn't seem to help. It's not bad enough to make me drop the coin on a Patagonia yet (if that would even remedy it.)

Hopefully someone has a helpful response. That sucks.

Lots of people around where I live have wetsuit allergies. Must be the case because there was no one out in February and now everybody and their mother is surfing

Happens to my friend. He's allergic to latex too. Pony up and get the Patagonia natural rubber suit. You won't be allergic to it. There great suits but $$$$

No issues but who knows what our bodies are absorbing from the chemicalsuites, er, wetsuites.

Pretty messed up - - wish you the best - - the human race, aka 'the caretakers of the planet,' continues to devolve the planet into a disaster zone.

Oh, please..."the caretakers"??? Isn't that a bit egocentric?? We are no "caretakers", we are no "stewards" of anything about the Earth, given geologic time. If you want, at best, you are a flea hovering around the rear opening of an elephant. Always remember, the Earth did not anticipate our arrival, doesn't know we are here, and doesn't give a s(hit if we are wiped out by another meteor, which is, sooner or later, on its way. Pleasant dreams!!!

Kranky again 'cause you missed your appointment at the gerontology clinic?

Given "geologic time" then means that you're part of the species that evolved into the dominant force on this planet. (although your evolution seems severely constrained by your lobotomy)

Homo sapien is the most intelligent species on the planet. Doesn't give them the right to just do whatever the fukkk they please. According to your outlook: shoot all the wolves, empty the oceans, pave over every damn thing just to open more SBUX & Old Navies for your grubby lil humanoid spawn, kranky kuda.

Always remember: we chart our own destruction as a species when we destroy the other species around us.

You can check with Archy on the ETA of your inbound meteor, Einstein.

    You're one selfish sumb!tch.

You are NOT caretaker nor steward--you never will be. Out of 4 billion years, you have been here, as homo sapiens, for no more than 250K years, a blink of the eye in geologic time. Nothing you do will change anything, which is my point, which you seem to miss. Detonate every atomic weapon arsenal and you will still need to multiply that energy by 10,000 to come anywhere near an asteroid. You are suffering from the sin of pride if you think you have any more control than a paramecium over either the path or the ultimate end of the Earth. You don't. You are but one of a million of other species that have passed this way. Enjoy the ride and keep the place clean.
I never said it is okay to destroy anything; that is your presumption. I like a clean house as well.
Now, wax up that board and go surfing.....

    ^^Kranky Dude...

....we as humans have the power to destroy this planet - - and we're doing so. Name another species that has ever been able to do that to planet earth.

You're wrong: we can change many things, for worse or for better.

    Your statements make zero sense.

You do not have the power--again, it is one the major Seven Sins to think you do. Pride. Oh, yes, you can wipe humans away, and maybe a few larger mammals, but destroy the Earth......we can't. The math I gave you on Nuclear arsenals versus asteroids is the one given by scientists. Sorry, nice try.

Bacteria can do more harm than humans. We are not the "Crown of Creation", unless we equate creation with stupidity. To that we can both agree.

It is flat out there today. Seems as if I will then go do 12 mile on my mountain bike, and go for a paddle on my longboard tomorrow when it is supposed to be a bit warmer in the morning. You?

There are many, many ways, large & small, in which humans are destroying the planet. Humans nuking one another is not the only way to destroy the earth. But this back & forth is pointless: believe what you want to believe.

40 on the road bike, then the gym for me. Then go on over & wave the flag/salute to the Rolling Thunder stalwarts as they do their thing for our military personnel: past, present, fallen & missing on this Memorial Day.
And then plan surf treks to HI, France, Barbados, possibly Mex - - and wait for some sorta half-decent bump to hit the eastern shore. Since you asked.

And to the guy who is allergic to neoprene: it's common, unfortunately. Try the Yulex. Other than that, you're kind of SOL unless your ailment facilitates you moving to the tropics to live/surf, in which case you are a winner.

have you gone to surf in France before?? If so, where do you go?
My wife, who is of French descent (Quebecoise), would love to go. I would like to try going there as well someday soon. There is that large wave break (I forget the name), I would love to surf--it is an open water location. Guns required. Presently, the only trip I have on the books is Costa Rica for March 2016.
