You're welcome... Definitely a big difference. It's light as a feather, which I like. It's EPS / Epoxy, vacuum Bag, with some other proprietary technology / materials they use, which is kept a secret. It's bullet proof and fast as hell. Great in almost all conditions. I've had it for just over 2 years, it's been to PR and back 3 times and doesn't have a scratch her!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but there is no science that proves that textured underwater surfaces of any kind... including Coil's... reduces drag and increases speed. There is a LOT of science on this subject, and the bottom line is this... certain textures, namely micro-grooves that go parallel to the direction of the water flow, can have a measurable effect on skin friction drag (which is the kind of drag we're talking about). However... their effect is dependent upon (1) the shape of the groove, (2) the speed of the flow, and (3) their location along the hull (where they start and end). Taking the first two variables into account makes the theory moot when applied to surfboards, because it's very difficult to control #1 using sandpaper, and the variety of speeds achieved when riding even a single wave makes #2 impossible to control... you go slow, fast, and an infinite number of velocities in between on every wave you catch (if you actually do turns... not so much if you just go straight).

In terms of wax or other hydrophobic coatings, they do nothing (look up "no-slip condition" for more info) except collect dirt, grime, salt, and barnacles... all of which increase drag.

But do what you think works. Confidence in your equipment outweighs the effect of a one thousandth of an inch riblet in your hull.

I could care less about scientific proof, all that matters is that the board is fun to ride and does what I want it to do. Dont over analyze it. Just my .02

Exactly... I always find it funny when people who are mediocre surfers at best get lost in the minutia of things, when there are so many other things that matter so much more... fitness being one of them.

I just find the science of it interesting... it's just what I do, and how my mind works.

Agreed, it's interesting stuff to know but ultimately it's what happens in the water that matters
