Oh yeah, heard about it at work as my co workers who do not surf, seem to share every ocean mishap with me.

Maybe the title of the thread isn't as much as a drawer as say, "shark attacks kid in Cocoa Beach"?

I think that Any shark bite on a kid is bad since they're pretty small people to start with. This weekend the water was pretty glassy in my area and I saw NO marine life: they must have all been partying up in Cocoa Beach.

Been to Lori Wilson Park, maybe about February. Is that the park where the politician was arrested for soliciting gay SE$ from another man about 10 years ago?

I have a theory that the increase in shark attacks is directly correlated to the surge and increase of people at the beach... Hope the kid gets better and hope it doesn't happen much more around here in the chuck but I generally feel safer in the water than I do driving my vehicle down the road each day...

It's just south of the Holiday Inn. I saw Ziggie Marley play there a few year ago during a surf contest that was held there. No one offered me any type of sex.

I feel bad for the kid, it sounds like a big chunk was taken, not just a bite mark.

And yes, the psycho landsharks among us (mostly the po po lately) along with clueless idiots who clog our roads like chunks of human cholesterol worry me more than the toothy locals.

You're right about any bite on a small kid being bad to begin with, this was apparently a 4-5ft shark, they think it was a juvenile Bull but who really knows. I thought about putting something different in title of the thread, but all I could think of was keeping my head on a swivel. I'm paddling out tomorrow and I'm sure this will cross my mind a few times out there. I never let these things prevent me from going out, but it definitely makes ya think, especially this time of year...

Your theory is a fact, it's definitely more likely to happen this time of year for the reason you mention plus the water is so f'ing warm right now that they like to hang out around here. But you are correct, I definitely worry more about getting into a fatal car accident on my way to or from work every day.

I would love to see Ziggie playing on the beach, that would be awesome! I saw Stephen Marley and his son not too long ago, great show! Great herb!

saw Ziggy 20+ years ago and he was so wasted that the show started an hour late and one of his daughters (i guess?) had to stay on stage to keep him from falling off of it or wandering off. good times!

'keep your head on a swivel' is some jock-ocular crappy advice from a second or third rate out of work assistant coach. the sharks are out there DAILY and you never see the one that nails you.

staying aware is key, but fretting over every tail splash you will lose focus on the waves

Hey MIS, I don't have time to be messing with my very own stalker troll. Let's just save a bunch of time and do this in person and get it over with. Let me know when you're in the area.

Hey DP, I was hoping to be in your area this summer, but I don't think I am going to make it down for a bit.

    I don't think it was a shark.
Due the location and the age of the the boy I'd say (with 99% certainty) that it was Wayne that bit him... He is very active in that area this time of year.

Definitely! It's a win, win for me when we come down, my girl's uncle is Hawaiian and his wife is Thai, so the food is amazing! Plus, I get to go surf where I grew up learning to surf. Oh yeah, her cousin's husband is going to take me tarpon fishing, too. Ya know, I lived down there for 9 years and never caught a friggin tarpon. I push to go down every chance I get, we just have to get our schedules in line to make the trip. I will def hit ya up!

Shark threads are boring and of little relevance. Media trying to install fear again.
Recently I was entering the water here in NH. A passerby yells out to me, "There are sharks out there, you know!".
I replied..."Oh no!! NOT sharks!!". Had a great session, but no sharks to be seen....
