Peak - the portion of the wave that is the tallest or steepest.
Uses - those that are at or closest to the peak have right of way.

Shoulder - the portion of a wave that is to the right or left (depending on wave direction) of the peak and is, at the time of the wave peaking, lower and softer to enter in on.
Uses - I grabbed a shoulder on that last one, and it was OK because there was no one taking off at or near the peak.

Summer time...I thought some could use some help.

What if it's mushy summer beach break and the wave really has no form?

What if one guy keeps on paddling around to the peak on every set? If everyone can surf it's about sharing not priority in today's crowd.

I have a lovely suggestion: If you are a beginner don't surf in The Pack....

If you are afeared of surfing by your lonesome, then hang 20-yards south or north of The Pack.

You earn the right to the best waves by experience and knowledge and maybe paying some dues.

    And that's not unfair.

I'm quite comfortable in my sexuality to respond to any thread....

But Barry, you responded to this thread. Ok, albeit in a snarky fashion, but you still posted on this thread.

You may be a little Jack Tripper to Mr. Ferrelly or who was the other one? Old guys, a little help.....

    Oh man...or wipe?

One of the last examples of meritocracy, the line-up.

    It's simpler than that...

    Peak: Where you take off.
    Shoulder: where you kick out.

If people just didn't take off on the shoulder, you wouldn't run into problems.

BTW... some excellent peaks yesterday late afternoon, no?
