Never used one. Just googled it. Looks like a cool board and one I would personally really like.

That being said. May I rant? I am going to.

Enough with the questions about particular board models. Its not rocket science. Either you like the shape or you don't. Board model doesn't mean squat. Heck every individual one is going to be different anyway.

    Ok I'm done.

Good luck. You thinking about picking one up I suppose?

Do not have or ridden, but this board is definitely on my wish list.

An old co-workers husband is the production manager at Super in Oside. She said I could get customs for $450... Then I went and burned that bridge :(

I highly recommend this board on the east coast. You could say it's like a mini Simmons. They can handle some ass, but you're probably on your thruster at that point.

Interesting. I was just thinking to buy a similar board, a Roberts Hope Diamond, 7'4". For bigger or older (thats me) guys that want a bit more flotation.

That Roberts will treat you ok. Perhaps a 2 5/8 white diamond about 6'4"?

I've got one and really like it. I picked it up mid spring but with our meager conditions as of late I've not ridden it as much as I'd like. For me, I need a quality waist high wave to really have fun on it. For reference I'm 5'10 175lbs and I got a 5'6. That size is perfect for me and I set it up as a quad. I'm jonesing for some juice to see how it handles in the larger stuff...I think it'll do pretty good. The day I picked it up we had a fun little wave out front, here's a couple pics.

guess it's all relative, but the hope diamond and fling don't seem that similar to me.

i picked up a 5'4 towards the end of winder.
    i love the thing.
in fact its the only board ive ridden since...

this is the first hybrid fish thing ive owned, never surfed a hybrid shaped that didnt end up feeling too floaty or sluggish, but then again have only been on a handful of them.

i enjoy it more and more each session, its becoming my favorite board. ive only ridden it in stomach maybe chest high punchy stuff a few times but it handles well. pretty much theres no frustration about it, its a fun fun feeling board and it does what you tell it to.

fins that came with it are massive. threw these on it and it fockin flys! really cool top to bottom feeling, of course not the super vertical thruster feel but its a blast. turns on a dime with the smaller fins and fits in some really cool spots on the wave. the tail is pulled in a bit but it is also a lot thinner than the rest of the board so it doesn't give you the feeling of sitting on a cork. Definitely setup be ridden as a quad.. as a thruster it kind of sucks. but it was like knee high so maybe within the next few months i'll think differently. the quad keels i bought are in the link below

You could be right--but after all the years of surfing, I even do not see much difference between a longbaord and a short board, because they are all FUN boards!!

For the guy who has the 5'4 how are the rails? They say they are 2 1/2 which seems very thick to me but if they are pretty foiled out, might work. Just wondering if coming off boards that are more like 2 1/4 to 2 3/32 it's going to feel like a boat. Also how tall are you and how much do you weight? Thinking the 5'4 also.

Also if you thought you MIGHT want a fling, this will pretty much seal the deal. Ridden as a thruster no less:

When my Bottom Feeder dies, it's either a Fling or a Puddle Jumper.

oh, keep in-mind, that vid was filmed in a NJ version of epic surf. you could ride a coffee table on thise waves and have fun. they need to show what the board can do in shi'ite-show NJ crap.

Also a semi pro surfer is riding it. Looks OK.

I hate how they dont show the whole wave.

My bad, was thinking 2 5/16 or 2.32. In any case 2 1/2 is fairly thick in shortboard rails if you aren't a pretty big person and want to sink the rail particularly if the outline is wide.

Really like the look of the wide outline put on rail and short radius turns. Less flicky looking than narrower boards.

Any yes the waves are good enough to ride a standard shortboard but that Fling looks very fun in these waves.

thickness is only measured at the stringer. I don't know anyone who measures rail thickness in inches...they're basically either "full", "medium" or "low" and always thinner than the thickness at the stringer.

anyway, I see what you're saying: the fling has a lot of range. It can obviously handle some epic-ish jersey...but would rule in smaller/mushier conditions (as a quad, of course).

i bought an oversized fling last year because it was closeout cheap at the end of the year. it was way too much board and foam for me. I'm 5'6", 180 with a 4/3 on, and i was on a 5'10". it was foolish impulse buy. dudes rave on it but i found it a bit stiff due to the biggedness
