So I sent Roy a PM letting him know the fin pin snapped off when it was removed from the fin box. I asked him if I should glue it back, send it to him for repair, or any other advice. He said he has had other fins have problems, and it going with fiberglass for his new fins, and will send us some to try out when he gets them ready. I also mentioned how it flexes a bit too much in larger HH + waves, and he said the new materials will solve that problem. Thanks, Roy. I'll try to copy and paste the PMs, as he gave me permission, and it is more detailed.
Hi Roy, I hope all is well and you're having fun in Mother O. You have been a really good sport lending us the fins. I wanted to PM you this info, I will not post it for the GenPops. I lent the fin out to a buddy who can ride big surf on longboards to get his feedback. He took it down to Costa Rica to Dominical and got it out in well overhead swell and he said it had a bit too much flex for big ass waves. But it works great in waist to head high surf, and I use a shortboard for anything bigger. That is not the point. I do not want to give fuel to the **** on SI, so this is wha happened. When he pulled the fin out of his finbox, the pin and the surrounding base snapped off from the rest of the fin. So it has a weak spot that needs to be reinforced. No big deal but I fugured you should know. I am going to use superglue and send it on, unless you want me to send it back to you in 2 pieces so you can spec it out. Or do you have any advice what glue would work best, if you want me to fix it and send it on? Best regards you sheep ****er, Rick Hi Rick, Thanks for the update. I agree that the Gullwing is too flexy at higher speeds, the Spitfire is much stiffer. We've had a few fins break, most are ok but enough breakages to lead us to heading in the cnc cut glass direction instead. Glass will aslo cure the flex issue. There's not much point in repairing the broken fin tab, I tried that and it doesn't work very well. Thanks for giving it a go, when we get the glass versions done I'd like to send one or two over for the crew if you are still keen. Regards to you Johhnyreb lol.
Cheers. It's weird because the vast majority of the fins have been ok, just a couple had this issue, so we'll also make the tab solid in the pin area, it should solve it.
It was a tight fit when inserted (that's what she said). Maybe that's why it gave out when it was removed. A solid tab in the pin area will definitely fix it.
Quality Control personnel were pre-occupied with sheep, apparently. Hope you get your fin problem corrected, gnome.
Really!!! I just went out to the garage, and still have the two pieces. The last time I used the fin was when my wife dropped a jar of honey on the concrete driveway. It scooped up the mess real fine. YO YO YO real waves coming down the pike tomorrowand Thursday nice liners OH and very makeable, like (fill in the blank)'s Mom.
