Here is me Resume' Graduated from ODU December 2014 - B.S. Civil Engineering Technology Been working for 2 years as a project engineer on several successful construction projects. (Construction sucks... its full of greedy and manipulative arse kissers.) I have major interest in creative problem solving. Seriously... you have a problem, let me know I will figure out the best way to solve it. I am left handed. That has to count for something.... I surf. I think we all know that surfers look at the world and challenges within it in a very different light. I need a job to feed my soul. Construction just isn't cutting it. Help.
You could design and build wave pools. The same people who b_tch about them will be enjoying them You could open up a Starbucks in a rich town and check out all the stay at home moms all day!
Live in your mom's basement and avoid the real world. Take up crying. Learn how to abuse the welfare system. Default on your student loans. Learn how to become right handed. Quit surfing.

ok, maybe i should have been more specific. I like creative problem solving pertaining to tangible objects. Still have a little trouble with figuring out how to solve problems related to socioeconomics
http://www.indeed.com/q-Civil-Engineer-l-Honolulu,-HI-jobs.html its the rare person that isnt partially whoring out their mind/body enjoy the ride and do what you can and if you are really subversive, get a job and do a really really sh!tty job
I have actually thought a lot about this (wave pool/standing wave that is). I feel like Virginia Beach would be a good place to have one too... Somewhat of a HUB for surfers with it proximity to OBX and Belmar.... yet some of the worst sandbars on the right coast. The hard part is coming up with the capital needed to build one. Coming up with the design (cast in place concrete, padding, pumps, water supply, hvac) is relatively easy.
get your PE and work in consulting. that will hollow out what soul you have left. hook up with some hot a$$ed psychopath girl who grinds down your self esteem and ocassionaly calls the cops on you. be afraid to quit your job because you have a mortgage, car payment, credit cards, etc. have an unplanned child and sell your boards because she says surfing takes you away from your family. pretty sure this is the best advice you will get
Well... 90% of what you just said is already happening if not about to happen in the next 2 years if I don't make some serious changes... I wont get me PE, maybe the only actual positive thing in your post.
well, every industry and profession is infested with greedy and manipulative ass-kissers, however, you can only control your own actions and once you invest some time into it and arrive at a certain stage in your career (having managed to keep your integrity intact and establish a good reputation) you will find and ally yourself with the ones who think like you do, and then you watch each other's backs and help each other out as your cohort advances through the ranks. FYI - all careers suck at the beginning; its crucial for the long-term health of any industry/profession to weed out the non-committed and disgruntled early, before they can do any damage.
I presume you still live in the tidewater area. There are many government contract companies in the area. Or, try to get a job with a local municipality near the ocean. You have done the easy part...Getting your BS. Now the fun part...a career path. They say your generation will change jobs every 4-6 years. I would definitely try something new. My friend is an architect and looked at jobs with City of VB and mentioned there were only Engineering Jobs available and that was very recent. Good luck.
Start your own business. Use your ENG and PM experience in construction to develop content and build online training modules to sell to PE's for state mandated continued education to renew their state PE license, in addition to other licensed professionals in the industry. PM me if you want to discuss in more detail.
I was very close to going to school for architecture... still kind of wish I had. I am big into AutoCAD and autodesk inventor which I have yet to use at my current job. Anybody have anything they want drawn? I would like to start a businesses, however I don't know about the training modules, seems kind of boring. Not enough creative opportunity in that.
It may not be as exciting as say... being a rock star, but it's highly lucrative if you do it right. Just a suggestion, take it or leave it
I think he is using a program called Revit (sp?). I think he mentioned it was better or beyond AutoCAD. Not 100% but seemed like it was a superior program. DP provided two very good options. The second one sounds way more fulfilling...
