What do you do when a board just isn't working out for ya after a good while?

I have a longboard that I've had for over a year now. It's like some self fulfilling prophecy. I've never really "gotten" the board (the whole longboard thing is kinda foreign to me). Because of that, I rarely ride it. When I do decide to ride it, I regret it and remember why I want to sell it. Needless to say, I'm not shotting any piers with it. But there are rides where I'm like, "Yea, this is how this thing is supposed to go". But those are rare.

Thing is, it's a really nice board in great shape and it's worth some money, so I feel bad keeping it hanging on the wall and totally kooking out on the rare occasion when I do decided to ride it. I could also use a new shortboard for the fall and I could have a new one shaped for what I could probably sell the board for, or close to it.

    Thoughts?

unless you really like small days and walking the plank, and back, and forward, and back, and nose riding, get rid of it...sit inside with a fat one on the small days, or learn how to paddle real hard with a mid size

i've never ridden anything over 7 & a half (which despite the shape, could almost qualify as a LB i would think), but have watched plenty of people...the good ones can really rock them, but the bad ones are beginners that wanna take the easy way, in my opinion (it's just one step away from a SUP - although there are exceptions to that as well)...needless to say, unless you're really good at walking back and forth and pulling tight turns riding a friggin' motor home, get rid of it and go for something short with a lotta float

Yea. I have a 6'8" mini log from a local guy, sorta based on a Takayama Scorpion that I ride when it's small. I LOVE the board. I've never felt like it was not enough foam, no matter how tiny the waves. Plus, I like the added maneuverability versus a LB.

But I really like the IDEA of the LB. But I think it's obvious at this point that I don't really like the board.

dude I bought a longboard,no joke, probably like 6 yrs ago,and never even took it out the house.problem is when I bought it ,it fit in my car nice and snug.now I have a different car,and it just doesn't fit.im not a fan of roof racks or straps, thats a ticket to fellow surfers to follow exactly where im going.hopefully I get to use it one day lol.

It's my only board that doesn't fit inside my car, but I do have a roof rack. I also live on the third floor of an apt building so just getting it to the car is kind of a pain, which is another reason I rarely take it. I just don't want to sell it and regret it.

just keep,u never know what the future beholds, maybe u get a 1st floor apt and a pickup with a large bed.thats why I was somewhat lucky when I started surfing,i didn't drive at the time,so my older bro would drive me,throw the boards in the back of the pickup, and call when I need to get picked up.

theres been times iv had shytty sessions with a particular board and Il walk in and tell somebody 20 bucks and the board is yours.nobody ever bought it,board been through hell and back, but she purrs nicely on a wave.kind of happy I didn't get rid of it.

Yea I keep hoping I'll like it. I think the problem now is I'm just not used to a board that size, and so when I do take it, I don't like it, which makes me even less likely to take it the next time out. If it was a beater I wouldn't consider selling it. But it's a unique board in good shape, and like I said, the fact that I could get a new SB shaped for about what I could sell it for, is very tempting. I supposed I could just take it all the time in an effort to get accustomed to it, but then I'm like, why take a board I don't really want to ride? Plus, I HATE HATE HATE riding longboards in chop.

Change fin setup 1st, unless it has fixed fins.
    Try again report back.

I already did. It came with a huge long rake fin (velzy long rake) changed it to a rainbow flex fin in a smaller size. It did help but I'm still not loving the board.

Sell it...you had it for a year, don't ride it, prefer other boards...why try and talk yourself into keeping it. Sell it to someone who will ride it...

Sell it cheap. Make someone else's day!

Im selling my surftech that is WAY to buoyant for me to my co-worker for $200. Used it 5 times maybe...

Dont give up on it just yet. Watch videos of dudes ripping on LB's and keep working at it. Everybody expects it to be easier but its not if you really want to rip on that thing.

Is it more of a HPLB or a traditional log? You may need to change the fin even though you did already. I go with a 9" Greenough 4-A on a 9ft HPLB.

Take it out on good days too, its so fun when there is some juice behind the waves. I bring both SB & LB most times to surf both. Never miss out that way.

I really like the classic LB style, and I love watching videos of those guys. I would love to learn to surf that way, but in reality, I just want to ride what I want to ride right now.

It's an 8'3" V-bottom single fin with a moon tail from Clean Ocean here in jax beach. It's kind of a replica of what Nat Young and those guys were riding in the late 60's. So, it's not technically a LB, but I'm a pretty small guy and it's essentially a LB for me, for all intents and purposes.

I have ridden it on better/bigger days, but I'm not a fan of handling a big board in those conditions or the paddle out. Plus, it has almost no nose rocker, and not much tail rocker, so steep waves can get a little sketchy. Otherwise, it can be super fun, though.

Im not digging the description. Trade it for a legit 9ft LB and tell me what you think. You're making judgements about a LB but that board is no LB. Trust me, you'll thank me later

I didn't mean to judge all LB's. Just that I don't really like what I have. I have considered that. It's a pretty unforgiving board all in all.

Sell it...if it doesn't gel after many sessions. Even if it's not the board, it will be in your head...been down that road and the head thing is soooo hard to get over.

All good, I have an 8'1" and a 9'er and there is a big difference, both fun but now prefer the 9'er

    Don't give it to waynetheinsaaaane.

If you travel at all then perhaps you could figure out a way to give that unwanted stick to a person who would likely not be able to get a board like that. Your karma index would be enhanced substantially by sharing the stoke & one person on this globe would have a better day, every day, thanks to you.
