Saw a TV show A Moveable Feast and they were cooking blues on a grill up in Mass? I think? No one eats them here. I ate mullet once. Once! You better have a bimini top if you're out on the water in daylight hours. Freaking sweltering here.
Small blues are edible if you clean and fry them right away. And the large ones if you steak em then slather (and I mean slather) mayo on with salt and pepper then broil them and finish with lemon aren't bad. Homemade tarter sauce doesn't hurt either. Definitely not my fav fish, not even in the top 15, and I used to just chuck them back, but I've learned those two ways aren't bad. I've had them smoked before and they weren't bad either. To be fair I've had them other ways and it was awful, but those three methods were ok IMO.
Here's one for a Sunday:

Had a few bass last week on poppers. Biggest was 35" and all were over 28" My dad eats bluefish. He smokes them and likes it, but I think they're gross
NYNJ did you eat the little snappers growing up in NY? They're alright, but just like crabs, it's a lot of work for a little meat. It was easier when my Mom cleaned a hundred crabs haha. Anyway, are all you guys casting from spots or from boats? I would love to get me some Stripers, maybe this is the year I'll buy a setup! As far as the poppers go ... I know a secret spot on Fire Island.
St. Peter's festival this wknd. Anybody want to walk the greasy pole? A little fishing and a lot of drinking in between. Starting with Green Head IPA...
I been out the past 2 weekends fishing for stripers, only getting baby sandsharks.those things are worse than crabs, just steal ur bait,u reel it in,they don't put up much of a fight at all,but u can tell something is on the line then it comes onshore and its another baby shark. I always fish off the beach,i never did fresh water fishing,i don't do the cast and bob thing,i set up my little pvc pipe thingys cast out,sit back, drink a beer, smoke a spliff and watch the sun go down til I get a bite, then I go chuck Norris on the fish.a month ago the blues were biting like crazy,we'd catch 3-4 per sesh, which is great.one guy said he caught 60 blues, like wtf are u going to do with 60 blues. then u got the guys down the beach not catching shyt, see u reel a decent one in and come talk to u for 5 minutes and set up right next to u.those are the kook fishermen.i normally have 1 spot I go to in my town on the bay.I had something big a few weeks ago,i was fighting with it for a good 10 minutes before the line snapped, and I just put brand new line on.i was so fuggin pissed.oh yea and theres been a shyt load of seaweed out there too,id reel in a baby shark and it feels like I have 30lbs on the line.i got skunked last summer too,no stripers or fluke, actually we did catch a baby fluke once but had to toss him back, all that's biting are these damn sandsharks.
