Got a guy I work with to make me a new boards. We're calling it a performance fish. Five fin setup. 76x19.5x2.85. I've got it set up in a cardboard cut out but can figure how to get a picture of It from my phone. What do you guys think?

6'4" x 19.5" x 2 7/8" is pretty beefy and long to be called a fish. From the dimensions it sounds more like a big-guy shortboard with a swallow tail. Most performance fishes would be 4" - 8" shorter, wider, and more like 2 1/2" thick. If you're pushing 190-200 pounder, then I guess the 2 7/8" could make sense. If you need the extra volume, I think fishes generally work better by getting the volume out of extra width not extra thickness.

Well I'm 6' 4", 190 and gaining muscle still. So it kinda is a big boy short board. But the nose is bigger than most shorts ive seen

Yeah then with that said, those dimensions make sense, at least to me.

It should be 20.5" wide or more. Try to find a bit thinner (maybe 2.65"), but wider board to throw around. You can shave a bit off the length, keep the float, and it will free up the tail for a looser, skatey feeling. It should be more maneuverable and able to let you flow over flatter sections and keep speed. 19.5' wide seems to be more for steeper waves and down the line projection.

Imo, when it comes to a fish that is used in the super small stuff....Always go with the shortest package possible that packs at least 10% more volume then your short board....very short, super flat, and thick.

it's kind of amazing and sad what some people try to pass off as a "fish" these days.

Mitchell, sisurfdogg and mrcoop are right on the money.

To me, at my size and surf ability, it is a fish. A board is what the owner will call it.

We shaved it down to 2.5 thick and went to 20" wide at the middle. Its going to be ready to surf sometime next week. depending on how the rosin sets and if i have time to go get it.

I'm similar weight and I used to always ride a 6'4" during the clark foam days. As far as buoyancy, modern poly is a little floatier than clark was, so you can tweak on the smaller side...but sounds like your dims are pretty spot on.
